Oh that first week of newborn snuggles🤱
The first week home with a newborn is full of all sorts of new adjustments. Some things you maybe weren't expecting or prepared for.
If you had a natural delivery you little one may have a cone shaped head, not to worry this usually passes by a month old.
Your babe my also have some bruising or swelling on their face and head which is also COMPLETELY normal.
It is also not unexpected for baby to lose up to %10 of their birth weight.
If baby is sleeping all day and up all night, there's a perfectly good explanation. While their in our womb we are active during the day and essentially "rock them to sleep". At night when we lay down to rest, we are no longer rocking them, therefore babe usually becomes more active, ever notice this?
Jaundice or yellowing of babes skin or eyes is to be expected to a certain extent as well. Putting them in front of a window to absorb some indirect sunlight is the best way to help your baby absorb the vitamin D they need to break down the bilirubin stored in their liver.
*Babe's levels should be tested at birth, 2 day appointment and 2 week appointment to make sure levels aren't too high to require blue light and are dropping like they should.
Breastfeeding is one of the most rewarding yet challenging parts of becoming a mother. The cracked ni***es, struggles latching, frequent cluster feedings, and being used as a pacifier are all normal steps on the breastfeeding journey.
If you're LO struggles to stay awake while feeding, don't fret too much. As long as they are still gaining weight, they are growing when they're sleeping. To help get the most effective feed:change babies diaper, feed, play, sleep, repeat. You want baby to eat at their most awake point, not eat to sleep. This will also help tremendously with developing a nighttime routine that doesn't require nursing your little one to bed every night as they get older and start sleeping through the night.
