Leukemia cells can adapt in surprising ways.

A new study shows they can reshape their mitochondria to escape the effects of venetoclax, a widely used treatment for acute myeloid leukemia.

Researchers pinpointed the protein behind this change and found that blocking it in mice restored the drug’s impact and extended survival.

It is early work, but it highlights a key driver of resistance and a possible new direction for patients whose treatments lose effectiveness.

🔬 Research like this helps move us closer to more reliable options for people with leukemia.

Researchers are exploring new ways to improve how chemotherapy works for people with treatment-resistant cancers.

A recent study from ChristianaCare’s Gene Editing Institute found that turning off a specific resistance gene with CRISPR helped lung cancer cells respond better to standard chemotherapy. Early results also suggest this approach may be useful in other cancers where the same gene plays a role.

Studies like this show how continued research can open the door to new options for patients in the future.

Artificial light at night does more than disrupt sleep. 🔆

New research suggests it may quietly strain the brain and inflame the arteries, raising long-term heart disease risk.

A Boston study presented at the American Heart Association’s 2025 Scientific Sessions found that higher nighttime brightness was linked with greater stress activity in the brain and more inflammation in blood vessels.

Even modest increases in light exposure were associated with higher chances of major heart events over time.

Simple steps like dimming bedroom lights, avoiding screens before bed, and reducing unnecessary outdoor lighting may help support cardiovascular health.
