At AHS, we are well aware that many people are struggling financially in these tough times, especially in the wake of our nationwide pandemic. We have patients who have lost their health insurance, and we have many patients that such high deductibles and copays, that they still can't afford surgery even with their insurance plan. We have gone to extraordinary measures to negotiate the lowest rate possible for a simple hernia repair, to include the facility fee, the anesthesia provider fee, and the surgeon's fee. At $3000, our all inclusive flat fee is the lowest we can make it, and our patients tell us it is the best rate they have found.

For patients who still cannot pay for the fee all at once, there are multiple medical loan/financing options available out there. We always recommend that you speak to your personal bank about a possible personal loan, because you already have a close relationship with them and may be able to get your best terms with them.

But here is a link to a good article that has information about medical financing as well as in-depth descriptions of several popular options/companies, such as Prosper Healthcare Lending, United Medical Credit, CareCredit, LightStream, and SoFi. It also discusses the multiple Pros and Cons of Medical Financing.

I have a bump in my belly button, should I have it fixed?

A belly button hernia, also called an umbilical hernia or sometimes an epigastric hernia, depending on its location, is when there is a defect in the abdominal wall near the belly-button and it feels like your insides are protruding. The tissue that "herniates" through the abdominal wall is often fat connective tissue (omentum) or intestines. You can see this especially when you laugh out loud, cough, or do heavy lifting. Umbilical or epigastric hernias can be mildly bothersome for some, but in others it can be very painful and limiting to daily activity.

Should I have a doctor look at my bulge?

The answer is simple: Yes!

Have a consultation with a hernia surgeon. The surgeon will be able to examine you, tell you if you actually have a hernia, and if so, provide you with options for a repair.

According to recent scholarly articles, an umbilical or epigastric hernia is simple to repair, and very often with great success. There are many different techniques used to repair these types of hernias. Your surgeon could repair it with a 2-million-dollar robot, or with a laparoscope (key-hole surgery), or with a simple open approach through a small incision.

A recent study by the British Journal of Surgery that also included cases in the United States, concluded that for simple umbilical or epigastric hernias, the best way to repair it is simply by an open approach.

So, there you have it. No need to overdo it with a robotic procedure or even a laparoscopic procedure for a simple belly-button hernia. This is a same-day surgery, and you can return to work in a few days.

See a hernia surgeon. It has been shown that patients achieve the best outcomes when they consult an experienced specialized hernia surgeon for your umbilical or epigastric hernia repair. Dr. Eric Pinnar, a board-certified general surgeon, has repaired thousands of hernias in his over 22 years of experience.

A spigelian hernia is a rare type hernia to that occurs through the spigelian fascia, which is a layer of tissue that separates the two muscle groups at the front of your abdomen. The muscles are called the re**us muscles and the oblique muscles. When a small opening occurs in this fascia, it's called a spigelian hernia. It is typically hard to diagnose because it causes symptoms of pain, but so small that it usually isn’t appreciated on physical exam.

If you have focal abdominal pain in the lateral abdomen, you may have a hernia. Read more at https://www.advancedherniaspecialists.com/faq-1
