From the 5k to the Half to the Full 🏃‍♀️🏃👟

Sports Recovery Annex was out at the Ameris Bank races last weekend providing post-race recovery for runners across every distance, and the finish line energy was unreal all day long!

One of the best parts of the event was getting to see some of our own patients crush their goals and walk away with PRs on race day.

We met some great people, had some amazing conversations, and had an absolute blast supporting an incredible rubning community 🏁🎽

❄️ Colder weather = Tighter muscles!
Ever wonder why you feel stiffer when the temperature drops? As it gets colder, your muscles and joints both react to the weather in ways that make movement a little tougher.
✨ Why stretch when it’s cold?
• Muscles are less elastic in cooler temps
• Increased risk of strains + tweaks
• Better mobility = better performance
• Your body will thank you later
🧠 Here’s the science:
Your joint fluid (synovial fluid) actually thickens slightly in cold weather, making your joints feel more “sticky” and less mobile. Combine that with muscles that aren’t as warm or pliable, and stiffness is almost guaranteed. Stretching and light movement help increase circulation and get that joint fluid moving so everything glides the way it should.
🔥 Pro tip: Start with gentle dynamic movements—leg swings, arm circles, or light marching—to warm up before holding longer stretches.

Here’s a quick guide: ice helps with swelling and new injuries, while heat works best for tight, stiff, or achy muscles. A simple choice that can make a big difference in recovery.

✨ The Holiday-Season Aches — yep, it’s a real thing!
Between long car rides and all-day airport travel, your body deserves some love this season. Here’s a quick posture reset to keep you feeling great and enjoying family time pain-free! 🙌

1️⃣ Sit Tall – Tilt your pelvis slightly forward and roll your shoulders up → back → and down.
2️⃣ Open Up – Interlock your fingers behind your head and take 3 deep, slow breaths to open your chest and lungs.
3️⃣ Neck Reset Pt. 1 – Drop your ear toward your shoulder (not shoulder to ear) and hold for 10 sec each side.
4️⃣ Neck Reset Pt. 2 – Tuck your chin to your chest and gently move your head side to side.
🚗✈️ You can do this mini routine at red lights, in the airport, on the plane, or right after parking at your destination.

About Sports Recovery Annex

Sports Recovery Annex is a walk-in sports recovery facility that provides everyday athletes and professionals access to state-of-the-art recovery tools and equipment once only available to Olympic athletes and the Pro’s. Recovery after training and competition will allow you to perform in your next competition or training session without being compromised by muscle soreness and/or fatigue. Recover to enhance your exercise performance.

If you are a novice runner training to compete in your first 5K, weekend warrior working on your general fitness or an elite athlete looking to perform your best, the Sports Recovery Annex is the place to come to help you stay in the game and achieve your goals. Our highly trained sports medicine staff include nationally certified athletic trainers, board certified physicians and support staff all with the sole focus to help keep you injury free so you can achieve your athletic goals.
