Sedley Huey was born on January 2, 1938, in Sue River District, Brainerd, in the beautiful parish of St. Mary, Jamaica. After suffering two major strokes in 2023, he became a resident of Wright Manor Assisted Living Facility in Orange Park, Florida, where he was lovingly cared for with compassion and dignity. Sedley passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025.

The beloved son of Hortensa Gladys Brown and Wilfred Morrison, Sedley was raised by his mother and stepfather, Landrew Brown, in Deeside, St. Mary. He began his education at Lewisburgh Elementary School in St. Mary where his father was the principal. He graduated from Kingston Technical School and went on to receive nurse training at Bellevue Mental Hospital in Kingston. He remained there until 1964, when he migrated to the United States to attend Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Sedley’s stepfather generously funded his first year at Howard, and through hard work and academic excellence, Sedley earned scholarships to complete his studies. He graduated in 1969 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Shortly after, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked for two engineering firms before joining Union Carbide Corporation. In 1978, Union Carbide transferred him to Jacksonville, Florida, where he later retired in 1989.

Following his retirement, Sedley co-founded ACTECH, an architectural, electrical engineering, and construction company. One of the company's first major projects was designing electrical plans for air conditioning upgrades in Duval County Public Schools. ACTECH thrived for many years until Sedley’s second retirement in 2019.

In November 1968, Sedley married Patricia Desire Richards. Though they divorced in 1975, their union brought two children: Sharon and Curtis. Sedley is also father to Joseph and Carol. In February 1978, Sedley married Louise Melbourne-Ottey, and they built their life together in Jacksonville.

Sedley was a devoted family man who never missed an opportunity to connect with his large extended family. He was known for his warmth, generosity, and love for education. He emphasized the value of learning to his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and younger siblings—often rewarding academic excellence with financial gifts. He furthered his own education by earning a masters in business administration from the University of North Florida in 1981.

He was also a passionate domino player—his face would light up after a victorious “six love.” A committed member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Sedley regularly attended prayer meetings, Bible study, and Sunday services. A true sports and news enthusiast, he kept up with current events through radio, television, and online sources.

Sedley was preceded in death by his loving parents, Wilfred Morrison, Hortensa Huey Brown and Landrew Brown; his beloved daughter, Carol Elaine Huey; his sister, Gloria Montgomery; and his brothers: Jack, Kenric, Emerie and Earl Morrison and Headley Montgomery.

He is survived by his wife, Louise R. Ottey-Huey; children, Sharon Dionne Moffett (Keith), Curtis Earl Huey (Sara), Joey Huey McIntyre, Marcia A. Ottey-Mitchell, Maxienne A. Ottey-Samuels (Clifton), Michael A. Ottey (Diane); grandchildren, Tanesha Shaunta' Waid, Amina Dian Huey, Avery Omar Huey, Keith Gregory Moffett, II, Ali B. Mitchell, Ashana R. Samules-Stojic (Mathew), Kamela Ottey Jones, Etosha Ottey and Amani Ottey; and great-grandchildren, Jaelin Stojic, Jasper Stojic, Josephine Stojic and Elijah Jones.

Sedley also leaves behind siblings, Neslyn Morrison, Wendell Morrison (Gloria), Alwyn Morrison (Charmaine), Fay Eshleman (Don), Gem Morrison, Arlington Morrison (Janice), Roger Morrison, Sheila Morrison, Bobbette Morrison, Bobby Brown (Kristen), Clive Brown, Alvin Brown, Noel Brown, and Sharon Brown, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends—including his beloved domino family.

His presence, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed, but his legacy of education, hard work, and family devotion will live on in all who knew and loved him.
