This painting holds a lot of emotions.
I did this at a hospital 6 years ago. This was just 2 weeks after I gave birth to my daughter.
I’ve had OCD since around age ten but it always showed up in various other themes.
Once I got pregnant, the intrusive thoughts were becoming scary and debilitating. At that time my therapist did say she treated OCD, however I was utilizing techniques for anxiety… and we know how that goes.
After I gave birth, I was too scared to be alone with my daughter. Intrusive thoughts, images, commands haunted my every waking moment.
At different points of the day, I’d just be curled up in a ball.. scared to move.
A lot of people don’t talk about the grief part of OCD. Sometimes when I look back at pictures of me holding my daughter, I wish I could go back..
go back and actually fully experience those moments and be present.
I’m grateful for my therapist I sought out after the hospital. I’m here to say that ERP allowed me to have my life back.

✨ What is Habit Reversal Training (HRT)? ✨
HRT is a therapy technique designed to help people stop repetitive behaviors like nail biting, hair pulling, and skin picking. It works by increasing awareness of the habit and teaching you new, healthier behaviors to replace it.
The process includes:
Awareness training — noticing when and why the habit happens
Competing response training — doing a different action instead
Building motivation and support
It’s a simple but powerful way to take control of habits that might be holding you back!

This is a nice send off before attending the OCD Conference in Chicago ✈️
Exposure therapy changed my life and allowed my own OCD to get into remission.
I love how it can help clients get their life back.
