September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month🩸
This year, the message hits close to home for us—one of our own team members, Kristina, was recently diagnosed with a blood cancer, multiple myeloma 💔 As we stand beside her in support, we also want to raise awareness for all who may be walking a similar path.
đź’‰What is blood cancer?
Blood cancers, such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, affect the way blood cells are produced and function.
🏥Early signs can be easy to miss, but may include:
• Persistent fatigue or weakness
• Unexplained weight loss
• Frequent infections
• Easy bruising or bleeding
• Swollen lymph nodes
âś… Prognosis today is better than ever. Advances in treatments and early detection mean many patients live long, fulfilling lives.
🛑 Myth: “A blood cancer diagnosis is always a death sentence.”
✅ Fact: With modern therapies, survival rates have improved dramatically—and ongoing research is making even more progress.
This Month has been overwhelming for our team. We are a family and none of us were prepared to find out our collegue has multiple myeloma. Our providers started her initial work-up when she was complaining of fatigue, and this quickly escelated to something we were very concerned about. Our specialty is obviously not cancer so we called our local oncology center. We are so grateful for Dr. Asaad and her team with Southeastern Medical Oncology Center for getting her in quickly and starting the workup process. She starts chemotherapy treatement next week.
Thankfully it was caught early, and we will be with her every step of the way throughout her fight.
If you want to offer any support for Kristina please let us know.
