Dr. Meymand offers Oral Surgery Procedures and is the first female Oral Surgeon in Jacksonville FL.

Dr. Samira “Sam” Meymand hails from the great state of Texas and is now very happy to call Jacksonville, Florida her home. Dr. Meymand is an officer in the United States Navy who served for 11 years on active duty, achieving the rank of Commander, and continues to serve in a reserve status. Dr. Meymand is a Cumulative Dean’s Honor Roll graduate of the Baylor College of Dentistry and completed a General Practice Residency at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, California. While on active duty, she was chosen to set up the first general practice dental clinic in Djibouti, Africa to serve our nation’s heroes at the “tip of the spear.” Following that assignment, Dr. Meymand was selected for an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the prestigious National Capital Consortium, Naval Hospital Bethesda, Maryland. After completing her four-year Oral and Maxillofacial surgery residency, Dr. Meymand deployed on the USNS Comfort (TAH-10) Navy ship where she performed oral surgery and served as Chief of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery in El Salvador, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Antigua, and Panama. She also served side by side with Plastic Surgeons assisting in Cleft Lip and Palate treatment with Operation Smile. During her most recent tour, Dr. Meymand was Department Head and lead Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon for the Oral Surgery/Dental Clinic at Naval Hospital Jacksonville. Dr. Meymand is the first female Oral Maxillofacial surgeon to practice in the Heart of Mandarin. She performs extractions, bone grafts, biopsies, sinus lifts and implants under IV sedation or Anesthesia. She is currently on staff for trauma and emergency patients at Orange Park Medical Center, Baptist Hospital and Memorial Hospital. Dr. Meymand earned her Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2004. She is currently a Board Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Dental Association. She is also an active member of the Jacksonville Dental Society and she co-founded the Jacksonville Women’s Dental Society. Dr. Meymand enjoys volunteering her time through missions such as Operation Smile to treat Cleft Lip and Palate patients and feeding the homeless at the Sulzbacher Center. Her husband, Dan, and 3-year-old son, Zachary mean the world to her. Dr. Meymand’s awards include: Le Croy Full Scholarship, Full Navy HPSP Scholarship, Silver Scalpel Award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 Stars).

The ADA News recently highlighted Dr. Meymand's Humanitarian Mission trip to the Phillippines with her female OMS colleagues in February 2023 in honor of Children's Dental Health Month. They provided care to patients, performed cleft lip and palate surgeries.

Our Dr. Meymand was featured as our Hometown Hero "Stories of Service" on First Coast News in January 2023. We thank Dr. Meymand for her sacrifice and service to our country!

Dr. Meymand was the first female oral maxillofacial surgeon to practice in the heart of Mandarin. Now, she's adding another title to her list of achievements.

Dr. Samira Meymand presented "Oral Surgery Pearls" at the Jacksonville Dental Society Meeting this week. Dr. Meymand said it was great to see fellow dental colleagues. Additionally, it was well organized by the wonderful Executive Director, Mrs. VIrginia Smith with full masks and 6 feet social distancing for the meeting.
