Visit our website for more: https://www.masjax.com At MASJax, we are proud to be leaders in minimally invasive and robotic procedures for weight loss, colorectal and general surgery. Many of our procedures are laparoscopic or utilize the daVinci® Robotic platform, meaning we can perform complex and delicate surgeries with minimal pain, through small incisions. Our patients have speedy recovery times and get back to their normal lives quickly with low risk of complications and minimal pain. We are dedicated to individual needs, goals, and healthy experiences by providing our patients with the information they need pre-surgery via our bariatric seminars and comprehensive consultations. Post-surgery care is equally important, and we work closely with our patients to enhance their recovery and have numerous support groups they can attend. With rigorous attention to detail and aftercare, our practice has become a trusted provider in not only Jacksonville but all of North Florida and Southern Georgia. We are committed to the highest quality of care both before and after surgery.

Diverticulitis is rare in some parts of the world and diet has everything to do with it.
Most Americans don’t get enough fiber, but that’s not always your fault. Our fast-paced culture and highly processed foods make it tough to eat enough plants, grains, and legumes. 🫘
Your colon deserves better! A little more fiber can go a long way toward preventing problems down the road.

Sure, artificial sweeteners are less problematic than regular sugar… in the short term.
But long term, they can push the brain toward craving even more sweetness. That’s where the problems start, especially for patients working to prevent diabetes.
Be mindful when it comes to your sugar intake!

Bariatric surgery does NOT mean food prison!
One of the biggest fears people have is that surgery = a life of bland, boring, can’t-have-that meals.
You can still eat the foods you love. 🍕🍫🥑 What really matters? Portion control, mindful eating, getting your protein in, and fueling your body in a way that supports your goals.
So no, your favorite food isn’t “off limits.” The real change is learning how to eat in a way that works with your body instead of against it.

Two consoles, one operation.
The robotic system lets us operate together and collaborate even from separate stations. We stay connected through shared controls and synchronized views to keep the entire team connected in real time. It gives us better coordination and a smoother procedure for our patients.

🌟 Here’s another before-and-after that shows what steady commitment can do.
Every patient’s story is different, but seeing someone reach a point they once thought was out of reach is the part of this specialty that’s most impactful.

🩺 Case of the Day- Complicated Diverticulitis and an Ileostomy; why this is life saving and steps that need to occur prior to reconnecting all the intestines. While “Flexible sigmoidoscopy” might sound like a mouthful, it's really just a fancy way of saying we’re taking a close look inside your lower colon.
I recently performed one for a patient with diverticulitis to see what was really going on, and this test helps us get the full picture fast, and makes it safe for you prior to surgery.

Rounding is your moment to speak up! Name the pain, flag what feels off, and ask the questions that have been on your mind.

And it could add years to your life.
A colonoscopy takes about 30 minutes. Add prep and anesthesia, and you’re talking a day, but the impact lasts far longer. You’re comfortable, sedated, and finished before you know it. One simple test can help detect problems early or even prevent colon cancer altogether. And it’s a prevention screening, so it’s covered by insurance under certain guidelines.
This isn’t about fear. It’s about taking charge of your own health and peace of mind.
One appointment. That’s all it takes.
If you’re 45 or older (or earlier if you’re higher risk), talk to a doctor and see if it’s time to schedule.
