Did you know? The American Cancer Society's statistics for 2022 show increased numbers for new prostate cancer cases and number of deaths due to prostate cancer. In fact, the numbers show a 40% increase in new cases when compared to 2021's estimates.

Dr. Christopher Williams, Urological Oncologist at Urology Consultants and WeCareJax Board Member says, "Despite what you've heard about Prostate Cancer not being very aggressive, and in some cases, people are saying you don't need to be screened anymore, whenever [268,000] people get diagnosed with something, it's not insignificant. And furthermore, when [34,000] people a year are dying of something, it's not insignificant."

Be a superhero for men's health and support screenings! Your donation will help fund the barriers to care that are preventable roadblocks for our patients and the โ€œextra stepsโ€ involved with appointments and cancer screenings. These include transportation assistance to appointments, wrap-around care and support, and any necessary labs and biopsies associated with the screening. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
*
*
Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men.
*
*
1 in 9 U. S. men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
*
*
African American men are over 75% more likely to develop prostate cancer compared with white men.
*
*
African American men are more than twice as likely to die from prostate cancer than white men.
*
*
Prostate cancer is usually slow growing and presents few if any early warning signs. Therefore, SCREENING is vitally important.
*
*
Screening for African American men and men with a family history of prostate, breast, colon, ovarian, and/or pancreatic cancer should start at age 40.
*
*
If you are a man without any of the aforementioned risk factors for prostate cancer, you should consider screening beginning at age 45.
*
*
Screening includes the PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) blood test as well as the DRE (Digital Re**al Exam).
*
*
Speak with your healthcare provider today about your risks for prostate cancer and need for screening.
