Lately, the word somatic seems to be everywhere. It’s being used in captions, course titles, and conversations so often that it can feel like just another passing trend in the wellness world. But somatic work is not new, and it is certainly not a buzzword. For me, it is a remembering. Long before it had a name, the body already knew how to communicate through sensation, rhythm, and response. Somatic work brings us back to that language, inviting us to listen beneath the noise and honor the intelligence that has always lived within the body itself.

So, if you will indulge me with a few moments of your precious time, I would love to share the meaning behind this word.

Somatic work is the art of listening with the hands. It is an invitation for the body to speak in its own language, one that lives beneath words and stories. Rather than asking the body to perform or correct itself, somatic work creates a space where sensation becomes the guide and awareness becomes the medicine. We slow down enough to feel the subtle tides beneath the skin, the places where the body learned to brace, adapt, or go quiet in order to survive.

In this work, nothing is forced. The nervous system is met with patience, curiosity, and respect. As safety is reintroduced, tissues soften, breath deepens, and the body begins to remember its own rhythm. Movement returns not because it was demanded, but because it was invited.

Somatic work honors the body as an intelligent, living landscape. Every sensation is information. Every pause is meaningful. Healing unfolds not by fixing what is broken, but by restoring relationships, helping the body feel seen, heard, and safe enough to release what it has been holding.

Somatic awareness is what transforms technique into art. When we weave somatic principles into bodywork, our hands stop leading and begin listening. Each stroke, hold, and pause becomes a conversation with the nervous system, guided by breath, sensation, and subtle shifts rather than force or expectation. It is where skill meets presence, where science meets intuition, and where the body is given the space it needs to reorganize, release, and remember its own capacity for healing.

I’m Victoria, the owner of Morphose Massage and Healing Arts. I established my small business in 2020, right in the middle of the Pandemic in Gainesville, FL. I moved myself and my business back home to Jacksonville in 2021, and after a few years of building, learning, and persevering, I am finally witnessing the blossoming of my business, that which is beginning to match the vision that I’ve held for us for so long.

I recently moved my studio to the Historic Five Points Theater building after residing at “The Portal - Spiritual Healing Center”, and am fully open for business as of this month.

My private practice is by appointment only. New Clients are not permitted to schedule online at this time, but can reach out to me by (in order of preference) text, phone, direct message, or email.

I am also available for table or chair massage for events, small gatherings and parties, and eventually will be hosting workshops and community offerings. (Please reach out if interested in booking me for any of these)

A "trauma-focused" medical doctor promotes the idea of “letting go of your victim story,” which overlooks the neurobiological and relational realities of trauma. ☣️

When people have been profoundly hurt, the “story” isn’t just a set of beliefs to be questioned; it’s the brain and body’s record of what happened. It’s carried in implicit memory, physiology, and attachment patterns, not just in thoughts that can be reframed. It's a biological effect. 🧬

When someone is still hurting, their nervous system is trying to complete unfinished processes of protection and connection. Shame or self-blame for “staying in the story” can deepen dysregulation and isolation. The idea that “no one can hurt you unless you believe they can” dismisses the fundamental truth that human beings are biologically vulnerable to one another. We are shaped in relationship, and injury in relationship leaves real physiological marks. ‼️

From an Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) perspective, healing isn’t about transcending pain or denying impact; it’s about integrating experience: bringing implicit bodily memories into awareness safely and with attuned connection. That often requires the presence of trustworthy others who can co-regulate, not just cognitive inquiry into beliefs. 👥

There’s wisdom in noticing when we’re looping in old narratives, but true transformation arises not from disowning the story, but from being compassionately witnessed in it until the body and mind can settle into coherence again. The story then naturally changes, not because we forced it to, but because integration has occurred. And that is genuine liberation! ⛓️‍💥

I want to deeply thank everyone in my city who nominated and voted me as Best Massage Studio in Jacksonville. This is a HUGE moment for me and an incredible accomplishment for my small business.

I have worked so hard for going on five years to get to where I am today, serving my community with my heart + soul and embracing my role as a community healer— one that I’ve always felt called to. Coupling that with being a singular small business owner has been no easy task, but the journey has been so worth it.

I wouldn’t be where I’m at without my amazing clientele, who have all quite literally changed my life by showing up for their self+soul care and for believing in me every step of the way. We did it, y’all! ✨
