We sent these memorial suncatchers—created without ashes—as a tribute to a beloved pup, from a deeply caring family in Vermont all the way to Seattle.

At the request of the person who placed the order, we included the following note with the piece:

“I am so incredibly sorry for your loss of Prim. Though I never met her in person, through your photos and posts over time I grew to love her so much—one can just tell that she was truly special. I hope you never forget that she will always be with you, and that the warmth of her spirit will continue to shine through in sunbeams.”

Honored, as always, to create work that helps carry love across distance. 💛

Mixing glass colors is always a bit of a surprise, which is why we don’t usually do that for memorial pieces, especially without test runs. There’s just too much at stake if the results don’t turn out as hoped.

When it comes to family, though, we can relax those rules a little and create more freely, without the fear of heartbreaking disappointment. These are some of the beads Dominique made with her partner Evan’s dog, Benji, who passed away before she met him. Evan was able to share these beads with some of the most important people in Benji’s life, and that made the process feel especially meaningful for everyone involved.
