✨Pregnancy Massage✨
One of the cornerstone services when creating Essence Massage was offering pregnancy and postpartum services. By far one of the most sought after bookings, but also one with the most questions.
Let’s answer a few!
-When can I get pregnancy massage ?
As soon as you know you are pregnant! Clients should inform any massage therapist as soon as they find out they are pregnant so proper screening and accommodations can be made for your comfortability and safety. Dont worry, our lips are sealed to keep your secret 🤫
-Can I receive massage during the first trimester?
Proper pregnancy massage is safe during all trimesters of pregnancy. Different accommodations, techniques, and areas avoided, are customized to each stage of your pregnancy journey. *A thorough health intake will be taken as certain medical conditions or symptoms could exclude certain women from receiving massage during their first trimester.*
-Can I receive massage with a high risk pregnancy?
Yes! However, certain requirements may be involved such as waiting until later in your pregnancy, or consulting with your OB prior to coming in.
-Will I be able to receive deep pressure while pregnant?
Deep tissue and deep pressure is avoided during pregnancy. Many women are surprised as their body receives pressure very differently during pregnancy. The increase and change in hormones to allow your muscles and joints to relax and expand for the baby results in less pressure needed for the clients body to respond to touch. Deep tissue / Deep pressure is not needed to feel the same relief you know and love from your massage sessions 💕
Can massage induce labor?
A common wives tale, and request from some third trimester clients feeling ready to meet baby NOW! However, there is no direct evidence to support any claims massage can induce labor.
When should I plan for my postpartum massage?
Typically recommended 4-6 weeks post birth for your first postpartum massage. This allows enough time for your body to recover from any medical procedures or postpartum complications and ready to receive bodywork again. As always, consult with your physician if there are any concerns.
