As we watched the Christmas parade out the window with our kids tonight, we couldn’t help but reflect on just how much this little building has meant to us over the past 3 years.

This space was our start. We’ve met so many families, shared countless smiles, supported big and small milestones, and even made some of our own memories with our children right here by our sides.

We are SO excited to announce that we will be moving into a larger space in January! We will still be located downtown at 1700 5th Avenue South.

This move allows us to continue growing and to offer even more comprehensive Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy services to support the amazing kids we serve.

Thank you for being part of our story. We cannot wait for this next chapter and everything it will bring. ❤️

Black Friday is here and we wanted to share with you our thoughts since we know many of you will be shopping! It can be so easy to get swept up in all the gadgets, gizmos, sounds, lights, and “must-have” toys of the season. Kids love them and so do we!

But here are some tips that can make your holiday shopping so much more meaningful and easier👇

🎁 Think about the purpose of the toy

Many toys look different on the outside but actually do the same thing developmentally. That means you may unknowingly end up buying several toys that build the same skill, while missing out on toys that support other important areas of growth.

Instead of a mountain of similar toys, aim for a variety. Kids learn best when they’re building skills across many developmental areas, not just one!

🧠 What to ask yourself when choosing toys:

• “What skill does this toy help my child practice?”
(Fine motor? Gross motor? Pretend play? Problem-solving? Sensory exploration?)

• “Do I already have toys that build this same skill?”

• “What areas could my child use more practice or confidence in?”

Toys don’t have to be big or expensive to benefit your child! Sometimes the simplest of toys are the most meaningful.

Here’s some highlights from the last few weeks at NLT 🩵💙

Busy boards are an amazing, space-saving activity for kids! I’m so glad I decided to make my son one! This keeps him “busy” for up to 30 minutes at a time. All of the items were purchased either on Amazon or locally. I tailored it to what I thought he may be interested in (the door stoppers are his favorite) but you can choose whatever items you believe your child will enjoy and make it as big or small as you want! Pre-made busy boards can be expensive, but I felt this was affordable and something that will grow with him to meet his sensory and motor needs!

Here’s how busy boards build sensory and motor skills:

• Turning, zipping, buckling and twisting builds fine motor skills
• Manipulating different parts supports hand-eye coordination and problem-solving
• Exploring different textures, sounds, lights, and resistances supports sensory integration

As a bonus, busy boards can be used as part of a sensory diet to support self-regulation. Kids can use them to get the tactile, visual, auditory, and proprioceptive input their bodies crave, helping them stay calm, focused, and ready for learning throughout the day.
