Dennis Dearl Freeman
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Dearl Freeman, who departed this life on January 14, 2026, in the serene town of Bremen, Alabama. Born on May 19, 1956, Dennis's life was a testament to unwavering commitment, not only to his community but also to his beloved family and friends. Over nearly seven decades, he cultivated connections that will be treasured forever.
Those fortunate enough to know Dennis recognized him as a pillar of strength in both his professional and personal spheres. He began his career as a funeral director at Collins Burke Funeral Home in the mid to late 1970s, demonstrating a profound dedication to service. In addition, he was among the inaugural members of the Walker County Rescue Squad, reflecting his readiness to serve those around him. In 2021, alongside his esteemed business partner, Sam Hood, Dennis realized a lifelong dream by founding Freeman Hood Funeral Services, which continues to be a beacon of support for the Jasper community.
Education played a crucial role in shaping Dennis's remarkable career; he took great pride in being a graduate of Cold Springs High School and furthering his knowledge through Jefferson State Community College's Funeral Science program. However, his accomplishments transcended his professional contributions. A devoted member of the Freemasons for over 25 years, Dennis held several leadership positions within his lodge, York 211, ultimately serving as Junior Grand Steward in 2024—a reflection of his exemplary character and steadfast commitment.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Dennis found joy in the pursuit of genealogy, dedicating countless hours not only to his own family history but also assisting community members in uncovering their ancestral stories. This heartfelt endeavor exemplified his kindness and the desire to forge connections among others.
Dennis leaves behind his cherished mother, Evelyn Freeman; his beloved daughter, Jaidia “Lucy” Freeman Vickery, and her husband Tyler; a host of family, friends, and fur babies; along with his trusted business partner, Andrea Hood.
He is preceded in death by his father, Hershel Freeman; his dear sister, Deb Moore; and his former business partner, Samuel Hood. Each of these loved ones held a special place in his heart and indelibly impacted his life.
