Wellness Wednesday with your FitFuel Nutrition Coaches and

Calories matter… but macros matter MORE 💡

Ever heard someone say “just eat less calories”?
That’s only part of the story.

Let’s break it down ⬇️

What are macros?
Macros = protein, carbs, and fats
They’re the nutrients that actually build muscle, fuel workouts, balance hormones, and support fat loss.

How do you count macros?
Instead of only tracking calories, you track how many grams of:
🥩 Protein
🍞 Carbs
🥑 Fats
you eat each day.

👉 Here’s the key:
Your calories automatically adjust based on your macros.
Macros aren’t separate from calories — they create them.

Why macros beat counting calories alone:
Counting calories only tells you how much you’re eating.
Counting macros tells you what your body is getting.

✔️ Better health – supports hormones, energy, and digestion
✔️ More muscle – enough protein + carbs to actually grow
✔️ More fat loss – eat more, move better, lose body fat sustainably
✔️ Less restriction – flexibility without food guilt

You can eat the same calories two different ways…
One builds muscle and burns fat.
The other leaves you tired, hungry, and stuck.

That’s why we take it one step further 🚀
We don’t just give you numbers.

We teach you:
✨ How to eat for YOUR body
✨ How to adjust macros as your goals change
✨ How to stop yo-yo dieting for good

Happy 16th Birthday to our oldest of 4,
❤️🎂🎉

You’ve always done things “your way,” and along the way you’ve taught us just as much as we’ve tried to teach you.

Your kind soul, your fierce love for your siblings, and your unwavering loyalty (even when it’s toward IU 😜) makes me so proud to be your mom.

Keep doing life your way, keep leading with kindness, and yes… keep cheering for IU if you must. We love you beyond words. ❤️🎂

How to Build Muscle Naturally

I’m in my “building season” and I couldn’t feel better about it. I’m eating ENOUGH calories to fuel growth, I have energy, I’m sleeping well, and hormonal/digestive systems are on point. I am 9 lbs up from stage weight and I am not letting the scale dictate my mood. I’m focused on my actions and how my body FEELS! As a natural athlete, it’s imperative that we pay attention to this kind of feedback.

If you want to build muscle naturally, follow these simple rules of thumb…

• Progressive overload – gradually increase weights, reps, or intensity to force muscle growth
• Prioritize protein – aim for high-quality protein at every meal to support recovery and growth, and choose single ingredient foods to minimize inflammation
• Train consistently – hit each muscle group 2–3x per week with proper volume
• Sleep & recover – muscles grow when you rest, not when you lift (7–9 hours is key)
• Fuel your body – eat enough calories from REAL foods to support training demands

If you’re looking to build mass or gain strength, we are here to help! Text 812-631-1040 to hear about our training options. Online training and nutrition coaching is available if you’re not local.

Therapy Thursday with

Trendelenburg gait: when the non-weightbearing leg dips at the hip indicating a weakness in the weight bearing leg’s glutes (specifically glute medius/minimus). See the second video.

Watch yourself walk toward a mirror and see if your hips stay level. If one hip (or both hips) drops when you’re walking, you may have a weakness in your glutes. This can be fixed and can help prevent future injuries! If you have it and aren’t sure what to do and where to go, give us a shout and ask for Dr. Adria Betz PT, DPT. 812-631-2156

Motivation Monday~
“The more you fall in love with what you’re doing, the less it feels like hard work and the more it feels like fun.”

Fall in love with fitness with these tips!
* Make it entertaining. Make a fun playlist, recruit a friend, join a class.
* Choose workouts that don’t feel like workouts such as hiking, riding bikes, zumba, or rollerblading.
* Set mini goals if you’re short on time. 10 minute workouts 3x a day adds up to a 30 min workout!
* Train your mindset. Focus on how fitness FEELS, not the number on the scale or calories burned.

Making fitness fun is all about shifting it from a chore to something you actually look forward to.

Wellness Wednesday with

Let’s talk about CARBS…

Not all carbohydrates affect the body the same way. Highly processed breads, buns, and wraps are often made with refined flours, added sugars, industrial seed oils (like canola, soybean, vegetable oil), preservatives, and emulsifiers that can disrupt digestion, spike blood sugar, increase inflammation, and lead to energy crashes and cravings. Over time, these ingredients place extra stress on the gut and metabolic system.

In contrast, single-ingredient carbohydrates like fruit, rice, and potatoes come in their natural form, providing fiber, essential vitamins and minerals, and a more stable blood sugar response. These foods are easier for the body to recognize, digest, and use for steady energy, fullness, and overall metabolic support. The issue isn’t carbohydrates themselves—it’s how processed they are. Choosing simple, whole-food carbs helps nourish the body instead of overwhelming it.

Member Spotlight!🤩

We are so thankful that decided to walk through our doors 2 years ago and join our FitFuel Family! Kim, thank you for sharing your progress. You’re a true inspiration! See her testimonial below.

“Time is going to pass regardless so you might as well just get started. “Before pic” was me 2 1/2 years ago. Life just happened and I wasn’t really paying attention to eating well or being physically active. I knew I needed to do something but just wasn’t sure what? I started at Fitfuel with group fitness classes and the nutrition course December of 2023. I wasn’t going to wait for a New Year’s resolution since I wanted to make a lifestyle change and not a quick fix. I am now over 2 years in and ready to keep pushing forward. Once you get started everything will fall into place and you will learn as you go. Our Fitfuel fam is all about positive accountability so it keeps you coming back. I’m so glad I didn’t let fear of getting out of my comfort zone hold me back. I know everyone says if I can do it so can you, but seriously it’s true. Just show up day after day and then look up in 6 months and see how far you’ve come!”

If you’re ready to make that next move, check out our website for options on fitness, personal training, nutrition coaching, and more!

I didn’t always feel this good in my body—and it didn’t change overnight.

My 20s:
Overweight. Following the “old” nutrition rules. Trying to outrun a poor diet. Drinking every weekend. Constantly tired, uncomfortable, and honestly… miserable.

My 30s:
Still not eating enough—especially protein. No muscle. Cardio queen. Hormones all over the place, thinning hair, and running on fumes while telling myself this was “normal.”

My 40s:
Everything changed.
I eat ENOUGH and prioritize protein to support my goals.
I follow a structured training plan.
Not afraid to call it a night and go to bed.
Cardio is now for stress relief and joy—not punishment.
I feel happy, energized, strong, and confident in my body. 💪

This evolution didn’t come from perfection—it came from deciding to change.

If you’re reading this and thinking, “That sounds like me,” know this:
Your next step doesn’t have to be huge.

It can be as simple as:
• Adding more protein to your meals
• Hiring a coach for guidance and accountability
• Joining a gym and just starting

Small changes, done consistently, can completely change how you feel in your body—and your life.

It’s never too late to evolve.

Check out our coaching options on our website below if you’re ready to take the next step towards health and happiness ⬇️

Every meal is a chance to improve your health or inflame your body. What will you choose?

Real health starts with single-ingredient foods:
fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, nuts, and seeds.
Foods that come from nature, not a lab.

Ultra-processed foods are packed with additives, preservatives, and artificial ingredients your body doesn’t recognize. Sauces, marinades, salad dressings, and breading are confusing your body. Foods from a package are designed to make you crave more. These disrupt the gut, trigger inflammation, and over time contribute to chronic disease.

Health isn’t complicated, it’s been made complicated.

Choose foods with one ingredient.
Eat. Real. Food.

Stop acting like every meal needs to be creative or a party on your plate. Boring brings results. Boring makes progress predictable. Boring brings freedom from overanalyzing your choices. Boring FEELS good!

Try this: Can you make a meal with only 3 ingredients? Can you put that meal on repeat? Note how you feel after doing this for several days.

If you could benefit from guidance and accountability, we’ve got you covered! Text 812-631-1040 to learn about our online Nutrition Course and coaching options.
