The Jasper Hospital District mourns the loss of the son of our beloved Physician’s Assistant, Terri Davis Cheeley, who is a tenured provider within our district, currently serving at Total Care at the Lake.

Will’s life was cut short, leaving a void in the lives of many. We provide our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and pray for healing and comfort.

Will’s visitation will be this evening from 5-7pm at Stringer and Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper. Funeral service is Friday at 2pm at The Jasper County Cowboy Church in Jasper.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the college fund for Waylon Cheeley (Will’s unborn son) with Derek Clotiaux at Edward Jones in Jasper, 409-405-4667.

Over the last few days, we’ve been pleased to announce the opening of the new Air Rescue - Beaumont/Jasper medical helicopter base in Jasper, the start of construction of Morrell Dermatology medical clinic in Jasper, and the approval of a new EMS station in the Rayburn Country area in conjunction with Jasper County Emergency Services District # 4.

Today, the importance of this work was exemplified. A medical emergency in the Rayburn Country area necessitated the response of local first responders. The quick response of the Lake Rayburn Fire Department, Allegiance Mobile Health, and Air Rescue out of Jasper provided timely transportation of a patient to a higher level of care. Prayers for a complete recovery for the patient.

The Jasper Hospital District, combined with our partners, are growing healthcare opportunities in the District, including the Rayburn Country area, one of the fastest growing areas of Jasper County.

But we’re not done……more to come in the weeks and months ahead.

The Jasper Hospital District Board of Directors are pleased to announce that the new base for Air Evac Lifeteam Base 152, known locally as Air Rescue - Beaumont/Jasper, is open and operational!

The board recognizes the need for all modes of Emergency Medical Services, including air medical services. In 2024, the Board reached an agreement to build this new facility in return for a commitment from AEL to staff the base 24 hours per day/7 days per week.

Base design was spearheaded by longtime Board Director Debra Harris and local Air Rescue Program Director Alyson Nickum-Smith.

The base is designed as two separate buildings, the crew quarters and a hangar.

The crew quarters are designed to house the flight crew, consisting of a pilot, a flight paramedic, and a flight nurse, with separate rooms for individual comforts. In addition, the crew quarters also include a common area, a flight office, supply storage, and an office for the Program Director.

The hangar is designed to include storage for the rotorcraft, abundant room and work area for flight mechanic Ward Parler, independent restroom, epoxy floor, fire sprinkler system, and is climate controlled. In addition, the hangar can house multiple rotorcraft in the event of hurricane evacuations of other AEL base rotorcraft by utilizing a massive bi-fold door for egress.

Both buildings are completely equipped with the latest in technology and contain many amenities.

The base is located on Marvin Hancock Drive in Jasper, in the new Mediplex north of Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital.

The facilities are phenomenal!

The Jasper Hospital District acted as our own general contractor utilizing predominantly local contractors throughout the construction process as well as purchasing materials from local suppliers.

If it wasn’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have no luck at all…..or something like that.

We’ve been remiss with posting updates lately leaving many to ask, when will the Morrell Dermatology clinic in Jasper open?

Well after months of delays, mostly caused by Mother Nature and the what seems to be everyday rain, we’re happy to report that construction will begin on Monday!

It’s taken way longer than it should but it finally dried up enough to finalize pad construction, drainage, and the temporary road. So barring any monsoonal rains between now and Monday, construction will begin at the Mediplex on Marvin Hancock Drive!

Tonight, the Jasper County Emergency Services District 4 board voted to build an EMS station on property owned by the Jasper Hospital District on Sam Rayburn Parkway (Recreation Road 255) at the Hospital District's medical clinic, Total Care at the Lake.

This is a joint effort between Jasper County ESD 4, Jasper Hospital District, and Jasper County Development District 1.

The building is estimated to cost $200,000 and should be completed by the end of 2025.

The ESD 4 Board voted unanimously in favor of this on a motion by Board President Sam Job and seconded by Sec/Tres Chris Lanier.

When completed, the EMS station will be staffed with a paramedic and EMT, along with a Type 1 EMS unit provided by our EMS contractor, Allegiance Mobile Health - Jasper EMS, Allegiance Mobile Health, Allegiance Mobile Health - East Region.

The Rayburn Country area is one of the fastest growing areas of Jasper County. As such, the need for emergency medical services continues to grow. The Lake Rayburn Fire Department has one of the finest First Responder programs in the district, which will now be supplemented in an expedited manner with this EMS station addition.

Within the last year, the Jasper Hospital District has opened the Total Care at the Lake family medicine clinic with Terri Cheeley - PA as the provider and the Jasper County Development District 1 funded the construction of a new medical helicopter landing pad adjacent to the clinic, and to the future home of this EMS station, thus creating a small-scale medical complex.

These improvements should greatly enhance healthcare in northern Jasper County.
