A small but intriguing transplant study is exploring a new way to prevent rejection without the usual daily high toxicity drugs.
In a phase 2a trial published in the American Journal of Transplantation and reported by Medscape, researchers tested a dual biologic regimen of dazodalibep plus belatacept as the main long term anti rejection therapy after kidney transplant. The goal is to reduce reliance on calcineurin inhibitors and steroids, which work well but carry long term risks and side effects.
In 23 kidney transplant recipients, the regimen was generally safe, preserved kidney function, and showed no cases of antibody mediated rejection. Even when rejection occurred, kidney function recovered after standard rescue treatment. Patient and graft survival were 100 percent at one year.
This is early phase research and the study was small, but it points toward a future where transplant patients may rely on more targeted biologic therapies with fewer toxic effects and potentially better long term adherence.

From superficial blood clot to aneurysmal proximal L BC AVF with small pustule. They can't ligate this mess until the aneurysmal section is relieved by the surrounding veins. It's a slow process for sure.

The picture on the top right is what my AVF usually looks like. A couple of days after I hit it on the dryer, it looked like the picture on the top left, and it developed the SBC. The weird red dot showed up mid-December.

It kept growing, so I went BACK to the ER and they lanced it. Scary thing to do to the top of an AVF! The top of my vein is less than .5mm from my epidermis. LESS THAN HALF A MILLIMETER! 😱

So this is a good time to remind people that a kidney transplant is NOT a cure. It's a treatment that can involve a lot of side effects. Just go with the flow and advocate for yourself with your healthcare! All of the medical professionals here have been so good to me 💚

My doctor says a living donor is needed because it is best, and because the deceased donor kidney transplant waiting list is extremely long. I hope to see my small grandchildren grow up. That is why I am reaching out to you, praying that you would consider blessing me by donating a kidney.
