Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons - MAOPS

Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons - MAOPS The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) has been the voice of osteopathic physicians in Missouri for 125 years. colleagues.

We’re most often associated with advocacy for the osteopathic profession at the local, state and federal level. The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) has been the voice of osteopathic physicians in Missouri since 1897. From our office in central Missouri, 1423 Randy Lane, Jefferson City, Mo., 65101, our team members assist and advocate for osteopathic physicians in the Show-Me State. Thanks to MAOPS dedication to - and advocacy for - the osteopathic profession, D.O.s around the state of Missouri enjoy the same practice rights as our medical doctor (M.D.) Today, MAOPS has a seat at the table when issues important to physicians and health care arise. Thank you Ozark District members for coming out tonight for central office and president updates!
Love seeing familiar and new faces alike from the Ozark region.

There is history here, as there is in every region of our founding state of Osteopathy. It remains a joy and honor to hear and share our osteopathic and MAOPS stories!

Congratulations KCROMA district physicians Carol Kirila, DO and John Dobson, MD on receiving MAOPS Medallion Awards for your dedication to our osteopathic profession through authentic teaching, leadership, and inspiration to our physicians in training. Every physician who has trekked through our rigorous training process can attest to the irreplaceable, impactful experience of being positively influenced by a present, passionate, and professional teacher. So many of us have our own stories of physician preceptors or professors who helped us navigate our course and forge our professional pathways. The time, attention, and care they gave in their teaching helped so many. Thank you Dr. Kirila, Dr. Dobson, and all the teaching physicians and professors who dedicate what they can to our future osteopathic physicians and our profession.

Thank you as well, KCROMA members, for your hospitality and engaged conversation during the district visit. Thank you to the KCU OMM fellows for taking time out of the evening before your exam and workshop weekend to share your perspectives and experiences as physicians in training. Thank you to the practicing physicians for taking time after your work day caring for patients to care for each other by your consistent presence and contributions to the district and organization.

With a variety of perspectives, experiences, knowledge, and skillsets represented in a single room- in a single organization such as MAOPS- our collective understanding, shared mission, and appreciation for one another becomes stronger, clearer. Some great ideas were generated and shared in that room; ones which have the potential to bridge gaps and positively contribute to the sustainability of our profession!

A couple impromptu meetings for professional mentorship and collegial support of wellness goals. One of which took place on the Kirksville pavement and under the autumn stars tonight.

Feeling gratitude for the members and past presidents of MAOPS; for their stories of resilience and dedication to osteopathic medicine. Looking forward to encouraging our young physicians at ATSU-KCOM tomorrow in their own resilient growth in their Advocacy development.

Impressive turnout of engaged, adaptive, and brave medical students and Missouri physicians who graciously explored the Missouri state capital and Senate chamber this weekend at the joint MAOPS-MSMA Advocacy Training Workshop. Much gratitude to the Missouri Senate for permitting our up close look and immersive experience; sitting in your seat, standing and speaking up for what and who we represent, and responding on the fly. A very humbling, illuminating, and empathy-building experience, indeed.

An abundance of thanks to Representative George Hruza , Senator Joe Nicola, Majority Caucus General Counsel Bryce Beal, Senator Rick Brattin’s Chief of Staff Tom Estes, former Speaker of the House Rod Jetton, and lobbyists Trent Watson, Jacob Scott, and Rachel Bauer, without whom we would not have learned and experienced all we have. Thank you to everyone who took the time out of their busy weekends to share their expertise and encourage each other in our constant physician advocacy efforts.

Thank you as well to our Capitol tour guide who shared history, sights (including optical illusions), chamber etiquette, gnome lore, and so much patience while we reveled in our beautiful Capitol!
