It is with great sadness that MSMA & MSMA Alliance announce that C.C. "Cork" Swarens passed away peacefully on January 29 at age 86, surrounded by his family at his home in Jefferson City.

On June 1, 1972, Cork began a 38-year career at MSMA, serving first as Director of Public Relations from 1972–1977, then as Executive Director and Chief Lobbyist from 1977–1994. He succeeded Royal Cooper as Executive Vice President in 1995.

Highlights of his executive career include the passage of the Patient Fairness Act, Managed Care, Insurance, and Tort Reform. He was also proud of the success of the Missouri State Medical Association Insurance Agency.

Our hearts and prayers go out to his wife, Karen Swarens, and their two sons and their families. Some of our favorite photos are below.
