UCP Heartland-Gibbs Center for Independence The center also offers extended hours, M-F, 7:30 a.m. — 5:00 p.m.

The Gibbs Center for Independence features three, state-of-the-art, training kitchens; advanced technology; adjustable tables; spacious restrooms and laundry facilities; a high-tech sensory room and wall-size monitors to display environment-altering visuals. In addition to its facility updates, the Gibbs Center offers highly trained staff and a registered nurse on duty throughout the day. With three new vans, the program offers choices to clients, including a daily outing into the community. The Gibbs Center has strong partnerships with businesses in the metro area to provide a network of assistance to the Gibbs Center.

Sunday, we celebrated 72 years of service! UCP Heartland was founded in 1953 by a group of concerned parents and volunteers, who wanted to provide a higher quality of life for family members and friends living with disabilities.

Did you know that 1,543,928 adults in Missouri have a disability. This is equal to 31% or 1 in 4 adults in Missouri. (CDC)

We are committed to providing the support necessary for a successful, meaningful life to our clients, their families, and their surrounding community.

Meet Kayla, an Employment client who works at Sonic Drive-In!

Kayla has worked at Sonic for 3 months making drink orders. She brings a big smile and bright personality to work.

Sonic has a large drink menu, so she has worked hard to learn how to make them all. She is now learning how to make the ice cream! Her job coach and other employees have helped her learn where everything is so she can be more independent in her work.

Kayla shared, “Working at Sonic is my dream job!” She enjoys being out of the house and talking to her coworkers.
