We are honored to present the 2025 Gálvez Cup Recipient Dr. Leonardo Seoane

Dr. Seoane graduated magna cm laude from Loyola University in New Orleans, with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, graduating with Alpha OmegaAlpha honors. After medical school, he completed an internship at the University of Alabama Birmingham Medical Center and aresidency in Internal Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans. He completed a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and a research and clinical fellowship in Lung Transplant at the Ochsner Medical Center, where he has been a staff physician since 2002.

He has held many leadership roles at Ochsner, including Interim CEO of Ochsner LSU Health System in Shreveport, Head of University ofQueensland Ochsner Clinical School, Senior Deputy Head of Ochsner Clinical School for Curriculum, and Clerkship Director for multiplecourses. He was also Medical Director of the Ochsner Medical Center Lung Transplant Program.

Dr. Seoane has dedicated his career to training the next generation of physicians, improving the clinical learning environment, andimproving the health of the communities of Louisiana. He serves on the Loyola University of New Orleans Board of Trustees. He founded the Gulf Coast Chapter of the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) and serves on the Executive NHMA Board nationally. Butmost importantly, he is the loving husband to his wife, Dr. Michelle Seoane, and proud father of Eddy and Leo

Dr. Ngo brings exceptional expertise in kidney, pancreas and liver transplantation, including advanced, minimally invasive techniques. Her distinguished background includes degrees from Duke University and Tulane School of Medicine, followed by a general surgery residency where she earned the esteemed "Esprit de corps" award.

A first-generation Asian American fluent in Vietnamese and Chinese, Dr. Ngo is a native of the Gulf Coast. She is deeply committed to expanding access to transplantation for underserved communities in the region she calls home. We are proud to have her leadership and vision as part of our team.

Meet Dr. Shoichiro Tanaka, a plastic and reconstructive surgeron at Ochsner Medical Center - New Orleans!

Dr. Tanaka's career path was shaped by a childhood injury, where he first witnessed the profound impact of plastic surgeons who helped put him back together. This early experience inspired him to enter a field that restores hope and wholeness.

Dr. Tanaka explains, "Plastic surgery gives patients an opportunity to feel whole again and regain self-confidence." This belief is the foundation of his practice. With advanced fellowship training in hand and microsurgery, his expertise spans the full spectrum of plastic surgery - from complex cancer and trauma reconstruction to cosmetic procedures and cutting-edge peripheral nerve surgery. He collaborates across specialties to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for patients of all ages.

His approach to patient care is built on listening. Dr. Tanaka tailors every treatment plan to the individual's unique needs and goals, encouraging open discussion to ensure patients feel fully informed and supported.

When Rue was born at 31 weeks, she received a diagnosis that would change her life forever.

Through expert NICU care by Christina Gomez-Juge, MD, life-saving surgery performed by Vincent Adolph, MD, and GI support through Ochsner Children's Intestinal Rehabilitation and Care program, led by Jasmeet Mokha, MD, Rue got a second chance to thrive.
