Want to learn more about our coalition and the work we do throughout Jefferson County regarding substance misuse prevention? Do you want to get involved to help us meet our mission? We will be presenting at the Lake Mills Rotary Club on Tuesday, November 25th 😊

How can you help promote a safer, healthier community? Find out next Tues. November 25th at 12 Noon, when Vanessa Leaders and Britanie Peaslee speak to the Lake Mills Rotary Club about Drug-Free Communities. Meeting location: The Lake Mills Station, 603 E. Lake St. across from The Dollar General Store; enter through the back of the building. All are welcome to attend. Lunch is optional, though tasty. Suggested meal donation, $13. Please make meal reservations by Nov. 22nd at 10:00 a.m.

Here's information about the coalition, Vanessa, and Britanie:
The Jefferson County Drug Free Coalition (JCDFC) was formed back in 2017 where community partners from various sectors came together to address substance misuse initiatives throughout the county. In 2019, the coalition was awarded a federal grant, Drug Free Communities (DFC), through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). However, in 2020 oversight of the grant was changed to the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) which is managed in partnership with the CDC. These funds are intended to focus on primary prevention efforts, specifically with youth, while identifying priority substances: underage drinking, to***co/nicotine cessation, ma*****na misuse, prescription medication misuse, and more.

With a Bachelors in Public Health and seven years of experience, Vanessa Leaders joined the Jefferson County Health Department in April 2023. As the Community Health Development Worker, she serves as the Program Director/Project Coordinator for the coalition and ensures all grant requirements are met.

Britanie Peaslee serves as the Community Health Ministry Coordinator and Community Resource Liaison at Rainbow Community Care. In her role, she partners with several county, regional and national coalitions to strengthen community engagement and collaboration. Britanie focuses on connecting people and organizations to resources, supporting local initiatives, and building partnerships that improve community health and wellbeing.
