Through the generosity of Ashe County donors, the Women in Touch Fund provides free screening mammograms for uninsured women who reside in Ashe County. Women must be at least 40 years old unless the mammogram is ruled medically necessary. Diagnostic mammograms may also be covered by the Women in Touch Fund on a case-by-case basis.

“The Women in Touch Fund plays a crucial role in the community by helping to cover the cost of mammograms and other diagnostic tests for uninsured and underinsured women, ensuring no one is left behind due to financial hardship,” said Dr. Ayla Kessler, Medical Director for Ashe Oncology and Hematology. “As we spread the word about breast cancer awareness, we want to remind every woman in our community that a simple, quick mammogram could save her life. The support of the Women in Touch Fund makes this possible for many who might otherwise go without. Our community's health is our top priority, and we encourage everyone to join our cause, whether through volunteering or a donation."

Who doesn't love a little friendly competition while learning something new along the way? We had the best time during our annual Fall Skills Fair, Cauldron Cookoff and Costume Contest today. From Minions trying to take over the hospital and rousing games of Pac-Man and the Price is Right to an enthusiastic sleuth with a mystery on her hands and everyone's favorite red head, it was a day filled with laughter, friendship and festive fun. And let's not forget Dorothy and her faithful friends making their way around the hallways and brightening our patients' faces. Thank you to everyone for their participation and congratulations to this year's winners!

It has been brought to our attention that someone called a patient stating they were from Ashe Memorial Hospital and that the patient owed a $60.61 bill. The caller wanted the patient to put the amount on a prepaid card and mail them the payment. Please note this is a scam! If you have any questions regarding your billing statements, please call our financial counseling office at 336-846-0725.

Thank you to our friends at Blue Ridge Energy for their generous donation to the Women in Touch Fund, which provides free screening mammograms to uninsured women in Ashe County. The donation was made possible through the community's support of Blue Ridge Energy's Fueling the Fight campaign. The pink propane delivery trucks run year round with Blue Ridge Energy making an annual donation in October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On behalf of our patients, we can't thank you enough for your continued support!

Quality Care You Can Rely On

For nearly 80 years, Ashe Memorial Hospital has provided the highest quality medical care available to the people of Ashe County and its surrounding areas. Our board-certified physicians, nurses and staff are members of the High Country community and work diligently to keep our community as healthy as possible.

History

In 1941, Ashe Memorial Hospital was established as a not-for-profit hospital to serve rural communities across the Blue Ridge Mountains. While the hospital has grown from a small medical facility to a world-class hospital offering a wide variety of emergency, elective and preventative health services, the focus has remained the same: to provide the highest level of care possible close to where you live.

As a not-for-profit organization, our hospital receives no tax dollars and all profits are reinvested in the facility. Ashe Memorial Hospital is completely owned by shareholders. Anyone can purchase a share for $100. Shareholders get no financial benefit, but they get to elect the 18 community members who serve on our Board of Trustees.
