Take the First Step Across the Social Communication Bridge®

To help children and teens, ages 3-17, with Selective Mutism, social anxiety, and extreme shyness speak in social settings, CommuniCamp™, uses Dr. Elisa Shipon-Blum’s evidence-based S-CAT® philosophies in an intensive, camp-like setting, where children interact in small groups with their peers. CommuniCamp™ incorporates S-CAT® strategies into fun, camp-like games and therapeutic activities that will help each child develop social confidence and progress into speaking as they journey across the Social Communication Bridge®. Children will have fun and make new friends while simultaneously working on skills needed for success in school and real-world settings. Working with highly-trained, graduate-level counselors led by our licensed clinicians, participants at CommuniCamp™ experience a truly unique opportunity for treatment. Over the course of three days (five hours of treatment per day for a total of 15 hours), CommuniCamp™ provides children and their families with tools to implement S-CAT® strategies in everyday life.

How do you know if CommuniCamp™ is right for your child? If you have a 3-17-year-old child with Selective Mutism, Social Communication Anxiety, and/or Extreme Shyness, who struggles to communicate at school with their teacher or classmates, has difficulty initiating their needs, is looking to make friends and connections for emotional support and shared experiences, or has been resistant to treatment in the past. Children who need extra help in the school environment tend to make more progress in this setting because they feel safe and confident surrounded by peers they can relate to! Your child will have fun, make new friends, and simultaneously work on strategies needed for success within the real world and at school. CommuniCamp™ is also ideal for children and their families who want to feel less alone and for parents who don't know how to help their child or school with Selective Mutism or social anxiety.

The S-CAT® Program was developed by Dr. Elisa Shipon-Blum and is an individualized and intensive program (in which the average number of visits is three to seven) for children, teens, and young adults who suffer from Selective Mutism, Social Anxiety, and extreme shyness. The S-CAT® Program is based on the understanding of Selective Mutism as a Social Communication Anxiety disorder and has been researched and published in a peer-reviewed article of a pilot study demonstrating its effectiveness. The research study was published in 2016.
