Ann Mertens graduated with a Masters of Acupuncture from the Won Institute of Graduate Studies and has been certified as a Diplomate in Acupuncture by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Element styles of acupuncture, she has experience treating patients with various health issues including anxiety and depression, musculoskeletal pain, arthritis, insomnia, headaches, incontinence, restless leg syndrome, and pre-menstrual syndrome. Don’t forget to spring forward!

Daylight Savings Time begins tonight, so set your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed.

And if losing that hour of sleep and adjusting to the new time makes you feel sluggish, there are a couple of things you can do to ease the transition.
First, try to switch gradually to the new time, if you
can. Go to bed 15-30 minutes earlier than usual
tonight, and do the same over the next couple of days
until you’ve fully switched to the new schedule.

Second, keep regular, consistent bedtimes and waking times, even on the weekend. A consistent sleep schedule helps regulate your body’s internal clock.

Lastly, expose yourself to some natural light in the morning for 15-30 minutes. Sit outside, take a short walk, or even sit by the window if the weather isn’t great. Sunlight exposure helps regulate your circadian rhythm and signals to your brain that is time to wake up.
