Cross friction massage
is a deep, transverse (perpendicular) massage technique designed to break down scar tissue, adhesions, and fibrosis in muscles, ligaments, and tendons, thereby improving tissue mobility and promoting healing. Performed by a therapist, the technique involves moving the skin along with a braced finger or thumb in a back-and-forth motion across the fibers of the injured tissue to stimulate circulation, reduce pain, and prevent the formation of dysfunctional scar tissue. It is used for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions like tendonitis, sprains, strains, and other chronic pain issues.
What is a neuromuscular massage?
Neuromuscular massage therapy is a form of soft tissue massage that aims to alleviate chronic muscle and nervous system disorders and problems. It is mainly used to fix trigger points, circulation, nerve compression, postural problems and repetitive movement injuries.
Neuromuscular Therapy
So, why is NMT different from regular massage? The difference lies in specificity. Therapists who perform NMT are specially trained to use a variety of techniques that address not only the muscles, but the NERVOUS system too.
