Today, we pause with hearts full of gratitude as we remember the remarkable life and legacy of Mr. Austin A. Layne Jr., Founder of Austin A. Layne Mortuary, Inc.

Mr. Layne’s vision was not only to build a business, but to create a place of dignity, compassion, and care for families during their most difficult moments. His life’s work was rooted in faith, service, and love for the St. Louis community, and his spirit continues to guide everything we do.

Though he has transitioned from labor to reward, his impact lives on in the countless families comforted, the community he uplifted, and the strong foundation he built for generations to come.

'Despite the many adversities they have encountered — or, perhaps, because of them — Black people have a long history of entrepreneurship, and their innovation has had lasting impacts on Black families, communities and the wider American culture and economy. Barred by racism and segregation from participation in the broader economy, Black entrepreneurs created businesses tailored to the needs of their communities, some lasting for more than a century.

Today we remember, acknowledge, and celebrate with gratefulness, Love, and respect, Mr. Austin A. Layne Jr.

On what would be his 89th birthday, we cannot let this day go by without honoring his memory.

Today we fondly Remember the Giant of a man he was.
-We Remember the opportunities he afforded us to serve alongside him.
-We Remember his kindness to everyone he encountered
-We Remember his mentorship and lessons taught.
-We remember his candor and wit.
-We remember his colloquialisms and comedic one-liners.
-We Remember his philanthropic spirit.
-We Remember his smooth velvety voice.
-Above all, we Remember the standard of Excellence he raised in making life a little easier for all who entrusted their loved ones in his care when death called.
