Every week we take our clients out into the community to show that fun, laughter & real connection does not require drugs or alcohol.

Studies show that spending time outdoors boosts serotonin and dopamine naturally — the same “reward chemicals” disrupted by addiction — helping improve mood, reduce cravings, and strengthen long-term recovery.

• Exercise‑based treatments for substance use disorders (Linke & Ussher, 2014) — “Research has shown that exercise evokes reward pathways and neurochemicals in the brain that are similar to those induced by addictive substances.” 
• Bidirectional Association between Physical Activity and Dopamine Across the Lifespan (Marques et al., 2021) — Found six studies showing positive effect of physical exercise on dopamine levels. 
• Recovery Horizons: Nature‑Based Activities as Adjunctive Treatments (Shirazi et al., 2024) — Review of using nature-based activities (hiking, camping, sailing, surfing) for individuals with substance use disorders.
