Part of understanding neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD, is recognizing that the way that we view and understand behaviors are sometimes different than the way we typically assess and respond to neurotypical behaviors. Do people with ADHD have facial recognition issues? Maybe!

Much of the focus on Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is on the attention and impulsivity issues. It is only recently when more and more parents and caregivers have started to learn about how ADHD can manifest, including not only bigger challenges like academic success, but also small...

Does it seem like homework time is like pulling teeth? It takes a LOT of energy for a child with ADHD to focus that long. Maybe you should introduce some breaks:

Many talk about how those with ADHD tend to have a lot of energy (hence the term “hyperactivity”) and that it can affect their ability to focus on tasks that they need to complete. It can be difficult for someone with ADHD to commit the cognitive resources needed to, for example, complete diffic...

There are two executive function challenges that can be especially frustrating for parents, as they tend to create combined challenges. These are "time blindness" (the inability to tell how much time has passed or how much time something will take) and task initiation (the inability to start a task). There are many behaviors that are not considered symptoms of ADHD, but are more common in those that have it. For exampl...

There are many behaviors that are not considered symptoms of ADHD, but are more common in those that have it. For example, many people with ADHD report that they love to listen to audiobooks and podcasts at 1.5 to 2x speed. But why?

Part of truly understanding ADHD is gaining more knowledge not only of the clinical symptoms of ADHD, like trouble focusing, but also the way that these issues manifest in a person’s day to day life. It’s one thing to know that a child with ADHD can have difficulty concentrating, but it is quite...

Keeping a child busy with after school activities may seem like a good idea when a child has excess energy. But there are situations where you may want to stop and think if they're doing "too much"

If it seems like more parents are signing their kids up for after school activities, it is because they are. Parents now feel like the absolutely have to sign their kids up to do basketball, dance, tutoring, and any number of other after school activities to occupy their children’s time. Is this a...
