I get asked all the time as an Occupational Therapist “What toys do you recommend?”
And my honest answer? The best toy is YOU ♥️.
Toys are simply tools. They are meant to build connection, spark imagination, and strengthen skills through play with your child, not replace it. A $5 thrifted puzzle played with you beats the fanciest gadget any day. 💛
When you shop this holiday season, remember:
✨ Play and relationship are the goals, not the product.
✨ Shop small, support the local makers and toy shops who pour love into what they create (I’ve tagged a few).
✨ Create experience. Use toys as invitations to connect (build forts together, make messy art, pretend cook dinner).
✨ Buy secondhand, kids don’t care if it’s brand new; they care that you’re there.
✨ Swap toys with friends or neighbors, check Facebook marketplace, you’ll be amazed how new “old” toys feel!
✨ Rotate toys every few weeks, it keeps play fresh, reduces clutter, and supports attention and creativity.
So yes, check out our OT-approved holiday gift ideas — but don’t forget:
The real magic isn’t in the toy.
It’s in the moments you create together. 🩷
Merry Christmas 🎄 Happy Holidays
