🧠💗 Regulation Starts with Understanding the Body 💗🧠
So many behaviors we see at home or school — the meltdowns, impulsivity, difficulty following directions — are really communication through the nervous system.
As an Occupational Therapist, I help children (and families!) understand why these behaviors happen and how to support regulation, sensory processing, and attention using connection, movement, and environment — not just “calm down” strategies. 🌈
Let’s bust a few myths:
🚫 “He’s just being defiant.” → Often, he’s overwhelmed.
🚫 “She needs to focus harder.” → She needs sensory input or movement breaks.
🚫 “Time-outs will fix it.” → Co-regulation teaches emotional safety first.
Through sensory integration, routine adjustments, and mindful strategies, we can help children thrive both at home and in the classroom — calm, connected, and ready to learn. 💕
