Did you know that sidewalk ramps (curb cuts) were originally a protest movement? 🦽📢

In the 60s and 70s, disability advocates in Berkeley, California, demanded the right to navigate their city independently. Their fight changed our streets forever.

But here is the magic of the "Curb Cut Effect": When you design for disabilities, you end up making life better for everyone.

Curb Cuts: Vital for wheelchairs ➡️ Helpful for strollers & suitcases.
Text-to-Speech: Vital for the blind ➡️ Helpful for phone-down driving.
OXO Peelers: Vital for arthritic hands ➡️ Comfortable for every chef.

At SnapSlide, we live by this philosophy. We design medicine bottles that are accessible for those with hand pain or dexterity issues—which means they are easier for everyone to use. No more struggling with the cap. Accessibility isn’t an "afterthought." It’s the blueprint for better living. 👐

At SnapSlide, accessibility is built in from day one—it’s not an add-on. One-handed function, tactile cues, and safety combine to meet needs as diverse as fine motor impairment, limited strength, and vision challenges. Design for dignity, health, and inclusion—for everyone.

Sidewalk curb cuts were originally installed to help wheelchair users safely navigate city streets. Today, they’re used by everyone—from parents with strollers to delivery drivers with carts. That’s the power of universal design.

SnapSlide is based on that same principle and delivers one-handed medication access that’s convenient for all, and life-changing for many.

🔦 SnapSlide Spotlight: Meet Steve from Oregon!

Steve was involved in a significant car accident years ago, temporarily leaving him without use of his dominant hand. SnapSlide would have been a lifesaver while he was recovering, since a cast prevented him from pushing and twisting a traditional lid.

Even today, he is able to use SnapSlide with either hand to access his medication. He says it is a lifesaver now, and “definitely a lifesaver down the road.”

💜 November is Epilepsy Awareness Month—a time to recognize and support the more than 3.4 million people in the U.S. living with epilepsy.

Daily routines, like managing medication, can be challenging for those with limited motor control or fatigue. At SnapSlide, we believe accessibility should be built into every design—so independence isn’t limited by packaging.

Together, we can make everyday moments a little easier and a lot more inclusive.

In October, Kevin Marshall, Senior Director of Design, Packaging and Content at Microsoft, talked about the importance of inclusive design at London Packaging Week.

Accessibility is “a fundamental right, not a feature,” going on to say that packaging is often “the first barrier or bridge between people and the products they need.” Designing inclusively, means meeting people “where they are, as they are.” Microsoft makes many accessibility-centric products, including the Xbox Adaptive Controller we have talked about in the past.

SnapSlide takes this to heart - it is the foundation of our design. SnapSlide is designed for accessibility and inclusivity, convenient for all, and life-changing for many.

Microsoft’s Kevin Marshall discusses how a focus on inclusivity and accessibility has reshaped the company’s approach to packaging, driving both innovation and empathy in global product design.
