Feeling guilty will not help you; it will only cause harm. Guilt has no place on the path of Dhamma.

When you realize that you have acted in a wrong way, simply accept the fact without trying to justify or conceal it. You may go to someone you respect and say,

“Well, I made this mistake. In future I’ll be careful not to repeat it.” And then meditate, and you will find that you can come out of the difficulty.

For approximately 3½ years, the East Coast Virtual Group Sitting program has offered assistant teacher-led morning (7am EST) and evening (6pm EST) group sittings via Zoom. Additionally, there is a 3-hr program each Sunday, a 1-day program on the 1st Saturday of each month, and every Monday and Friday evening an inspirational audio or video recording is played after the sitting. Typically, 100-200 old students join these daily sittings.

The most up to date links now, and in future, can be found at Dhamma Dhara's website at Virtual Group Sitting page

Vipassana centers must always radiate love and goodwill so that all who come feel that they have entered a sanctuary of peace. May each and every center become a true dwelling of Dhamma, in the shelter of which many may find the way out of suffering.

The Spring Dhamma service period will begin on the 9th of April. Dhamma Service Periods (DSPs) are an opportunity to give our Vipassana Center some of the extra attention it deserves! There is always a long list of projects giving old students an opportunity to contribute and serve at Dhamma Patapa. In addition to sitting together three times daily, we also enjoy three meals. The service periods offer time in the evenings to listen to inspiring talks, watch Dhamma films, and build friendships. Giving Dhamma service is a great opportunity to grow in our own practice by applying it in a working environment. Please join us at Dhamma Patapa for inspiration and growth in your practice. If you do not have time to stay for the entire period, you are welcome to come for just a few days, even an afternoon. All old students are welcome!

You’re invited to apply to serve full-time or part-time for the Spring Dhamma Service Period April 9-16. We hope to see you!

Q: It seems to me that it would take forever to eliminate the sankharas one by one.

A: That would be so if one moment of equanimity meant exactly one less sankhara of the past.
But in fact awareness of sensations takes you to the deepest level of mind and allow you to cut the roots of past conditioning.

In this way in a relatively short time you can eliminate entire complexes of sankharas, if your awareness and equanimity are strong.

Florida hosted its first set of courses for young children and teens in January at the Cypress Pillar Healing Arts Center.

The Children’s course for youth ages 8 to 12 was held on January 14th and was attended by 17 children – 11 boys and 6 girls. These children were served by 9 servers.

Children enthusiastically answered questions in the Dhamma hall to share their understanding of why and how we practice Anapana, the five precepts, and how the mind is interlinked with breath. In between sittings they worked on large murals on canvases, threw frisbees (most of them into the nearby lake and on the roof), and became good friends. The children could not wait to come back and attend another course. Parents also gave great feedback and eagerly await the next course in the area.

While the honey filled peanut butter balls and taco spread over lunch, as well as beautiful art projects were main reasons to come back, the children highlighted the friendships they made and the new technique of meditation that they learned as key take aways from the course.

The Teen’s course for youth ages 13 to 15 was held the very next day, on January 15th. It was attended by 4 boys and 5 girls. 9 servers took care of the teens.

The teens course was very inspiring, as the teens worked diligently with good posture and in complete silence in the Dhamma hall. The teens were highly engaged during Dhamma story time and it showed in how they reflected their learnings afterwards. Many servers have strong volition to continue to serve these courses. We hope to be able to expand the number of courses being offered per year, and the number of children and teens that can register for each course.
