Hello there💜how is everyone? I get a lot of questions about herbs🌿when I say a lot, what I really mean is literally every day💚I LOVE IT!
I could talk about plants and the endless ways we can use them ALL DAY EVERY DAY! Soooooo, I thought, how about I post some of my favorite ways to incorporate the magic of plants into your lives with a few posts 💚
Below I made a collage of different pictures I took at OM SALA in Chaing Mai Thailand💚I had the opportunity to take the Herbal Compress class for the second time of my career, but this time I got to experience it THERE! I was very excited about this class! If only I could put into words what that room smelled like😌there’s something about using fresh ingredients from the source that just makes it a million times more BLISSFUL!
So here we go!
Let’s start with Thai Herbal Compresses💚🌿
An herbal compress is super easy and fun to make! And honestly, the possibilities with these bundles of wonderfulness are endless!
What materials do I need to make them?
How do I make one?
How do I use it?
What are the benefits?
Materials needed:
Muslin fabric
Twine
Herbs (fresh or dried)
Mortar and pestle
Cutting board
Knife
Scissors
Vegetable peeler
Bowls (just have a whole bunch available)
How:
Cut the fabric into a 16 inch square
Cut a piece of twine (about 36 inches-ish)
Prepare the herbs (chop and peel if using something like fresh ginger or turmeric)
Use the mortar and pestle to smoosh each ingredient you are using
Combine everything in a bowl and mix it up
Take the fabric square and put a scoop of your herb mixture in the center
Gather the sides of the fabric and and make a ball
Tie the twine around the top to enclose the herbal goodness
Take the fabric sticking up and fold it over.
Wrap the twine around the stem many times
In a traditionalThai herbal compress, we use ingredients like kaffir lime that is not available here in the USA🇺🇸
But that’s ok! Feel free to use the herbs and flowers that you have available to you! What are you hoping to achieve with the herbs? There are an overwhelming amount of options, so feel free to reach out to me for suggestions or if you just want me to make your compress for you🥰
Uses:
Soak in hot water (don’t get rid of that water! I have a trick for you!)
Heat the compress in a slow cooker or vegetable steamer (VS is my personal favorite)
Use the compress to massage achy muscles or place on a joint ~make sure to use a hand towel or washcloth because the compress will be hot!
SAFETY FIRST 💜
You can also put it in your bath tub for an herbal soak or even just a water basin to soak your feet👣
DO NOT THROW IT OUT AFTER ONE USE! Put it in a freezer bag and freeze it until you are ready to use it again! You will get many uses from one compress. When it gets nasty, take it outside and release the herbs back to earth🌍say a little thank you and be on you merry little way!
Remember I said don’t dump the water you soaked your compress in?
Here’s why!
The infused water is also magical! Soak up a few hand towels or washcloths with the water and heat them up in a crock pot! Use them as warm compresses!!! You’re welcome!!
PSSSSSTTTTT…..You can also schedule a Thai massage with yours truly and I can give you a massage using the herbal compresses 💜🥰💚
