Jay Somers, DHSc, PA-C, DFAAPA, reminds us that in psychiatry what the patient feels truly matters. Being heard and understood is at the heart of the work. His commitment extends beyond his clinical work—Jay also serves on the PArtners in Mental Health Steering Committee convened by the nccPA Health Foundation, where he contributes to broader mental health advocacy. Congratulations to Marie Meckel for her outreach in Ghana. She provided HPV testing and treatment for patients with HIV, training for local providers, and community health education. Her efforts reached 600 community members and pre- and post-education surveys documented an increased knowledge about cervical cancer and its risk to one’s health. The project also strengthened in-country partnerships, and plans are being made to expand the care and education provided.
