The Professional Degree proposal is currently open for public comment. NCCPA, along with the American Academy of PAs (AAPA), the PA Education Association (PAEA), and the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the PA (ARC-PA), has expressed opposition to proposed changes by the U.S. Department of Education that would restrict the classification of “professional degree.” The proposal could restrict PA students’ access to critical federal loan programs, creating barriers to entry into the PA profession, reducing the number of future PAs, and ultimately limiting patient access to care at a time when demand is rising.
