When they said “the best things in life are free,” they weren’t kidding. I’ve been into health and fitness since I was a teenager. I’ve worked in the health and fitness industry since 2015. I have multiple certifications, taken countless continuing education courses, and read tons of books and loads of research. I don’t know everything, but let me tell you what I do know for sure…

Health and fitness has been commercialized to the point that it’s stressful. The number of things we’re told we “need” to get healthy or fit or lose weight is incredibly overwhelming.

There are actually no big questions surrounding how to actually be healthy or fit. The science is SIMPLE, the research is clear.

What makes it complicated is the information from companies vying for your business. Every time you turn around someone has the next new thing that is going to “make all the difference in your life”.

The best advice I could ever give you and that remind myself of daily is to take it back to basics. That’s where the life changing stuff happens. YOU DON’T NEED ANYTHING ANYONE IS SELLING YOU.

Hey, I'm not pointing fingers. Well yeah, I am, at me and you both. The truth is, we've all been here in some capacity and some of us are stuck in some or all of these habits/situations. ⁣

Make 2024 the year of getting unstuck, friends!

Your life doesn't change with:⁣

-30, 60, or 90 day weight loss plans
-restrictive diets and intense, grueling workouts
-supplements, weight loss drugs, or other gimmicks

Your life changes with tiny choices, made over and over again, day in and day out. These tiny choices aren't made by accident, they're made as part of a system for lasting lifestyle change. The "small changes" approach has been tested with randomized and controlled studies and shown to be the most effective way to implement new habits and behavior change in your life.

"You do not rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems." That's one of my favorite quotes from James Clear's book, Atomic Habits. You can have big goals, but your success is determined by the systems you put in place to reach them. Bigger isn't always better, and in this case, it's rarely effective long term.

Settle in for the journey, don't rush the process. Decide to focus on your well-being for the long run and you'll see weight loss as a result.

This recipe is AMAZING. It doesn't look like much, but the mixture of these flavors is so good! I use medium salsa verde instead of the sauce they suggest in the recipe. ⁣If you don’t like spicy, leave out the red pepper flakes.

This is a great make-ahead meal. You can portion it out in meal prep containers or just toss the rice, beans, and sliced tomatoes in separate containers in the fridge for when you want to plate it up later. I'll be on this one for a while! So good, so healthy, and so filling!

Do you ever get super stressed out about your health or your weight because you know you haven’t been making the best choices for yourself?

I feel you. 💯 One of the hardest places to be in is a place of total overwhelm with all the things you know you “should” be doing but feeling like you don’t have the energy or mental/emotional capacity to handle them. Then worry about all of it makes the feeling 10 times worse.

I want to encourage you today that not only do you not need to change everything at once, but that’s actually the worst way to go about making healthy changes in your life.

That’s right, go ahead, have a big sigh of relief. Our brains are literally designed to take the path of least resistance for survival. If you want to work with your brain, instead of against it, you simply need to make change easier. Stop trying to white-knuckle your way to a healthier lifestyle.

Sometimes you might be super motivated and want to go all in, and that’s fine. But remember that slow and steady wins the race. You have to be able to consistently do the things that improve your health, day after day, for life, in order to get healthy and stay healthy. Huge action is great, but it can’t be sustained. Start with teeny tiny consistent steps toward your health goals.

Do ONE thing today that is good for you and repeat that one little thing every day until it’s a habit. Then add another thing. What’s the one thing you’re going to choose?

In life we’ll always have trouble. Our lives gets better in direct proportion to our ability to feel emotions but act on logical thought. Instead of acting emotionally and ignoring facts.

Ladies with PCOS, this is an issue usually caused by blood sugar issues and it won’t get better until you get your blood sugar under control.

Trying my hand at growing vegetables. Historically, growing things has not been one of my skills. But I’m a firm believer that everything is figure-out-able with the right attitude. And I do love some veggies!
