Meet Eleanor Pendergraft, an 89-year-old Senior Olympic medalist, was a resident at Lakebridge a few years ago — and she continues to inspire us every time she visits! She stops by the therapy department several times a year, and during her August visit, she proudly brought her Olympic medals from her most recent competitions. 🏅✨
Diagnosed with MS at just 25 years old, Eleanor was once told she would never walk again. Relying on a motorized scooter, she faced enormous challenges — but she refused to accept that prognosis. Through years of hard work, determination, and lifestyle changes, Eleanor regained her independence and proved her doctors wrong! 💪
Encouraged by friends, she began entering races, and that’s where her competitive spirit truly took off. Though she’s faced setbacks over the years, her perseverance never wavered. When Eleanor came to Lakebridge following a fall and total knee revision, she feared her running career was over. That’s when she met Chris, our incredible PTA and fellow runner, who helped her regain strength, confidence, and hope. Together, they worked tirelessly toward recovery.
Eleanor’s comeback story is nothing short of amazing. Today, she holds three national records for her age group — in the 1500m run, 5K, and 4x100 relay — and during her most recent Senior Olympics, she brought home 3 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals across 12 events, including the long jump, javelin, and multiple running distances! 🥇🥈🥉
We are endlessly proud of Eleanor — and of Chris for believing in her and helping her achieve her dreams. Stories like this remind us why we do what we do. ❤️
