Today we continue our journey, and on Day 19 we are so grateful for HCA - Helping Celebrate Abilities 🎉

HCA has been serving the Greater Broome & Southern Tier region since 1947, growing from a small preschool into a thriving organization that offers an array of services: integrated preschool classrooms, residential group homes, community support services, employment, and self-directed supports for children & adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Their mission is to “celebrate and empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our community,” and to provide dignified, respectful integration opportunities tailored to each individual’s interests, strengths, and preferences.

Adapt Community Network will host a webinar titled, "Talking to Your Child About an Autism Diagnosis" on Thursday, November 13 at 10am. Dr. Michelle Gorenstein will provide age-appropriate, evidenced based strategies and expert guidance to parents and caregivers to help them navigate discussing their child's autism diagnosis with their child. Essential tips and resources for caregivers will be shared.

Kat recently achieved one of her biggest personal goals: adopting a cat of her very own! 🐈🐾

Living in an HCA residential home, Kat dreamed of having a furry companion, and with determination and strong self-advocacy, she made it happen. She worked with her roommates and staff, created a plan and budget, and completed the adoption process from start to finish.
She fell in love with Chester and decided he was the perfect cat for her. They are settling in well together and even practicing walking with a harness!

Way to go, Kat and welcome home, Chester! 😻
