Nuke 17 deserves more attention than it’s getting.

If you’re supervising USD-heavy shows or managing multi-shot sequences, this release touches parts of the pipeline that usually cause quiet friction.

Selective USD import in GeoImport means you’re no longer dragging entire scenes into comp just to access one piece of data. You can control payloads, prim activation, and graph depth before import. That alone changes how clean your scripts stay across iterations.

Gaussian Splats now live natively inside Nuke. For teams working with volumetric capture or environment reconstruction, that removes external round-tripping and keeps more of the shot inside comp.

BigCat extends machine learning beyond per-shot experimentation. Training across tens or hundreds of images opens the door to sequence-level roto and cleanup workflows that are actually reusable.

Then there’s performance. Deep renders up to 1.88× faster. GPU scaling gains that compound across shots. Native ACES 2.0. These are the kinds of improvements that don’t make splashy headlines but absolutely affect delivery schedules.

We're hiring a Course Editor at ActionVFX!
Remote. Contract. Starting immediately.

You'll own the full post-production pipeline — from raw recordings through to polished, LMS-ready course content. That means editing, pacing, graphics, branding, animations, and delivery. No hand-holding required.

ActionVFX assets have been used on Stranger Things, Spider-Man: Far From Home, The Walking Dead, and more. Now we're building an education platform worthy of that same standard — and we need editors who think like producers.

You're probably a great fit if:
→ You have 3+ years editing professional content
→ You've cut tutorial or course-based material before
→ You work in DaVinci Resolve and After Effects
→ You move fast without cutting corners
→ VFX or creative software is your world

This role starts as a contract engagement, with real potential to grow into something long-term as the Academy scales.

If you care about learner experience, build clean workflows, and want your work to reach serious VFX professionals around the world, we'd love to hear from you!

🚨 Nuke 17 is officially here.

And if you're a compositor, this isn’t a minor update.
New tools. Smarter workflows. Real production impact.

At ActionVFX, we care about more than just assets — we care about artists staying ahead of the curve. That means breaking down what actually matters in new releases like this.

We’ve put together a video walking through:
What’s new in Nuke 17
What actually affects your workflow
What you should be paying attention to

If you’re working in Nuke (or planning to), this is worth your time.

Every month, someone reminds us why this challenge exists.
In February, Wesley Junior, is exactly why this works.

He didn’t just “add” to the practice plate. He rebuilt it.
Turned it into a Mordor-inspired world with scale, weight, and intention.

What impressed us, other than the lava and the drama, was the control.

He understood where to push atmosphere and where to stop.
He used light to guide the eye instead of flooding the frame.
He let negative space do its job.
Nothing felt accidental.

That’s professional thinking.

And that’s why we run the VFX Challenge.

One image. Creative freedom.
A community that will actually look at your work and care about the decisions behind it.

If you’re serious about improving, this is a low-pressure way to stay sharp.
March’s challenge is live.

That’s where growth happens.

We'll see you over there but until then, congratulate Wesley!

20% OFF. The Latest Drops. Limited Time.
We just released six new collections in February.

Right now?
They’re all 20% off.

They’re practical.
Shot for real-world camera setups.
Built for modern pipelines.

Here’s what just landed:

Swimming Splashes Vol.1: https://bit.ly/4rBogcr
Swimming Splashes Vol.2: https://bit.ly/4cJHpnN
High-energy water interaction. Full body movement. Real displacement. Perfect for pool scenes, ocean entries, stunt work, or underwater chaos. Built to layer fast and hold up in closeups.

Fire Sparks & Embers: https://bit.ly/4rkl5FS
Controlled spark bursts and drifting embers. Clean, detailed, production-ready. Ideal for explosions, welds, magical impacts, or atmospheric fire detail that sells scale.

Daylight Fires: https://bit.ly/4qx1LnG
Fire that actually works in bright conditions. No crushed blacks. No fake glow look. Built for exterior scenes where the sun is fighting your comp.

Rain Drops On Water: https://bit.ly/4r3KO4z
Surface-level realism. Subtle interaction. Clean looping water detail that adds weight to rainy environments without overcomplicating the shot.

Foot Splashes: https://bit.ly/4kU6EG4
Grounded water interaction. Running, stepping, impact hits. The small detail that makes the shot believable.

If you’ve got shots in progress, grab what you need now while they’re discounted.
Because 20% off production-ready assets is better than 20% more time in comp.

Don’t wait until the discount disappears and the deadline doesn’t.

AI tools are moving fast.
Plugins are multiplying.
But what actually holds up in production?

On February 26th (tomorrow), we’re going live to break down:
• How Beeble AI performs as a real relighting tool
• Where it fits in a professional compositing workflow
• The plugins our team genuinely relies on
• What’s changing, and what actually matters

This is a structured, focused session designed to help you make better decisions in your pipeline.

You’ll leave with clarity on:
– When AI relighting is worth it
– Where traditional methods still win
– Which tools genuinely save time
– What professionals are actually using

A Long‑Awaited Update for VFX Workflows, and We’re Here for It.

The latest After Effects now includes a native Unmult effect. No plug-ins, no presets, just solid background removal built in. And if you’ve ever downloaded stock footage like our fire, explosions, or smoke clips, you know how useful this is.

Now, with the arrival of After Effects 26.0, Adobe has introduced a native Unmult effect that finally tackles this need directly inside the application’s keying toolset.

This effect is accessible in the latest beta builds under Effect > Keying > Unmult or via the Effects & Presets panel, and it’s designed to restore true transparency in clips that were captured with solid black or white backgrounds.

Unmult works by removing solid black or white areas in a layer and restoring the original transparency from the footage as it was captured:

A simple use‑case Adobe shares is compositing fire elements over a new background: rather than dealing with harsh black fringing or washed‑out blends, the Unmult effect converts the black portion of the element to transparency while preserving vibrant color detail in semi‑transparent regions.

The effect includes flexible parameters that let you refine how the background is removed:
Background Color — lets you target black or white backgrounds
Black Level / White Level — thresholds for removing pixels
Softness — smooths the transparency gradient
Remove Color Matting — eliminates residual matte color and restores closer‑to‑original pixel values
Clip HDR Results — prevents extreme color values during processing

Pair this with our pre-keyed collections, and your timeline just got way faster.
Choose from 12,000+ Assets: https://bit.ly/4a8uCtD
And if you’ve already used Unmult with ActionVFX assets, tell us below. What’s your verdict?

We set out to help new VFX artists build real confidence.

But you can't always do that through tutorials. Sometimes you need regular, focused practice with a community that actually wants you to improve.

One monthly challenge. Total creative freedom. Fellow artists to support you.
No guardrails on what to make, just a reason to show up and build.

This month’s Discord Challenge winner, Samuel Mourao, is proof it works.

He took the practice image and rebuilt everything around it, redesigning the environment, introducing zombies, and shaping a full narrative that feels straight out of World War Z.

That’s the shift we care about: From using assets to building worlds.

That’s why the Practice First library exists, and why it’s free.
We removed friction so artists can focus on thinking, experimenting, and building worlds.

If you’re a working VFX artist looking for a low-pressure way to keep your edge sharp,
join the Discord and take part in the next monthly VFX Challenge.
