He went out into the cold so other families could be warm. He climbed into danger so strangers could have light, heat, and a little bit of normal after an ice storm ripped through their lives. Now lineman Denny McGuff is in a hospital bed, fighting for his own life, his body marked by burns, a partial amputation of his left arm, and seven surgeries in just eight days as doctors work around the clock to keep him here with his family.
His wife Kristi says she still feels like she’s walking through a nightmare she can’t wake up from. After 31 years together, she wrote that she “simply cannot do this life without him,” and every update carries the same mix of shock, love, and a desperate hope that the next surgery, the next procedure, will bring them a little closer to a miracle. Each day, Denny’s medical team makes hard calls, his body bears new scars, and his loved ones cling to faith that the man who spent his career protecting others will somehow be protected now.
Today, Saturday, January 7, at 12:00 PM, the community in Iuka, Mississippi, is gathering for a prayer vigil at At the Cross, 890 O.E. Barrett Drive, to lift Denny up and stand with every lineman who risked everything during the storm. His family is asking people everywhere to pause, wherever they are, and pray for strength, healing, and mercy, and if you feel led, share his story so this circle of prayer around Denny and Kristi keeps growing.
