Working in a community like Brio is honestly one of my favorite parts of what I do. I love connecting with the residents and helping to create joy through a haircut or style. Being able to make them feel beautiful means the world to me. It's not just about doing hair — it's about laughter, hugs, and making someone's whole day a little brighter. There's truly nothing like seeing a client’s face light up when they look in the mirror.

Brio of Johnston is a vibrant community of residents and team members who joyfully celebrate life's precious milestones. Recently, Wayne Barrett, Assistant Director of Food and Beverage, exchanged vows with his girlfriend Kaitlyn of 3 1/2 years! The ceremony was held in Adel, Iowa at Barnes Place. Congratulations to the lovely couple and wishing them a lifetime of love, happiness, and adventure together! 💖

On Veterans Day, Brio of Johnston paid tribute to their veterans, expressing sincere appreciation for their remarkable service and sacrifice. A special luncheon featured April Conway, guest speaker from The Blue Star Mothers of America program. Colonel Michael Harris and Command Sergeant Major David Bailey awarded certificates of appreciation to each veteran, acknowledging their devotion to duty. Pianist Robert Sobiech performed the Armed Forces Medley, and Minister Gary Armstrong gave a special blessing.

It was a heartwarming time to celebrate these extraordinary individuals with loved ones. Thanks to all who helped make this event a triumphant celebration! 🎖️

A recent campus cultural event offered residents at Brio of Johnston a unique opportunity to explore the timeless art of Mehndi; an integral part of Indian cultural heritage that adorns wedding ceremonies with elegance. Featuring delicate, fine lines, these traditional Indian designs form a captivating pattern.

Our residents enthusiastically created intricate designs, unleashing their creativity and taking pride in their accomplishments. ☺️

Today in Dallas, Texas, Teresa Krueger, executive director of Brio of Johnston, a WesleyLife Community, was honored at the Senior Housing News BUILD + BRAIN Conference with the Excellence in Memory Care Innovation Award.

Teresa’s leadership has transformed memory support at Brio’s Elan Cottage — recognized as Iowa’s only Excellence in Care–certified household — into a place where older adults living with memory loss are given opportunities to experience joy and a sense of purpose every day.

Brio of Johnston hosted a heartfelt farewell retirement party for Kathie Taylor, celebrating her remarkable journey. ☺️

With years of experience in the hospitality industry, primarily at Chuck's restaurant in Des Moines, Kathie's passion for service has inspired countless individuals. Her transition to the senior living industry, working alongside Jessica Reinking, Brio's Director of Food & Beverage, has been a testament to her dedication. Joining Brio after Jess transferred, Kathie has spent six incredible years at Brio's Peak restaurant, touching the lives of residents, families, and guests. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will be deeply missed.

Congratulations on your retirement, Kathie! Your impact on Brio will be forever cherished.
