✨🙏 Tiny moments of gratitude can quietly change the way your brain sees the world. 🧠🌎

One of my favorite skills to teach clients (and a great way to wrap up sessions) is the G.L.A.D. Technique. It’s a simple daily reflection that helps retrain our brains to notice the good things happening around us — even the small ones!

Our brains naturally lean toward the negative (👋 hello, negativity bias 👀), but practicing gratitude and reflection helps build emotional resilience, boost mood, and strengthen mindfulness over time.

The best part? It only takes a few minutes a day! Try this tonight 👇

📝 Set aside 2 minutes in the evening to reflect on your G.L.A.D. moments.

📗 Write them down somewhere easy to access (journal, notes app, worksheet).

📖 Revisit your list when you need a reminder of the good in your life.

Small reflections can create big shifts in perspective. 💛

If you feel like you could use extra support in building a more positive mindset, Alex and Kellie at Courage Counseling are here for you. 🫶

✨ Three women. Countless lives changed. 💛

In honor of Women’s History Month, today we’re celebrating a few of the trailblazing women whose courage, compassion, and advocacy helped change the way the world understands mental health!

Because the progress we see today didn’t happen by accident — it happened because women spoke up, challenged norms, and fought for humane, compassionate care. 💛

Dorothea Dix
American Nurse, 1802–1887
Dorothea Dix is best known as a pioneering nurse who tirelessly campaigned against the often abusive treatment of the mentally ill in jails and institutions known as almshouses. She championed humane treatment for people with mental illness, leading to the establishment of numerous mental asylums and state-run hospitals and influencing national healthcare reform.

Karen Horney
German Psychoanalyst, 1885–1952
Karen Horney was a pioneer in feminine psychology, arguing against biological determinism in women’s development. Her work challenged Freudian views on women and expanded the conversation around “neurosis.”

Carol C. Nadelson, MD
American Psychiatrist, 1936–present
Dr. Carol C. Nadelson advanced women’s mental health and championed gender equity in medicine. She also made history as the first female president of the American Psychiatric Association (APA).

At Courage Counseling, we’re grateful for the women who paved the way for compassionate mental health care! 💛

Why do we keep ending up in the same place? Especially when we know our current path is only keeping us stuck?

Portia Nelson’s Autobiography in Five Short Chapters beautifully captures something many of us experience in life and therapy: repeating patterns.

Growth rarely happens all at once and healing is a process. It’s a process of noticing, learning, trying again, and showing ourselves compassion along the way. And eventually, we develop the courage to choose a different street.

If you feel like you keep finding yourself in the same place emotionally, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to navigate the path alone either. Call, text, or email Courage Counseling today for support on getting on the right path for YOU. 🫶

💛 If this resonated with you, consider saving this post so you can come back to it when you need the reminder that growth takes time. 🌱🪴

Happy March 🌿

You don’t have to bloom right now.
Some seasons are for resting, rooting, and quietly planting the seeds of who you’re becoming.

If this season feels slower, heavier, or in-between — that’s okay. Growth is still happening, even when it’s underground. 💛

We’re here when you’re ready.

🐾 Courage with Athena 🐾

Today I went to the vet and practiced being brave 💜
I just want to make frens, but sometimes my big ears and tall self make others a little nervous… and that’s okay. I still show up, wag my tail, and try again.

My hooman says mental health can feel like this too — showing up for yourself even when it feels uncomfortable or misunderstood.

✨ Courage is taking care of you
✨ Courage is trying again
✨ Courage is showing up

I’m cheering you on, frens 🐶
Luv,
Athena 💜🎀🐾

Noticing the winter blues lingering a little longer than you’d like? 🌥️

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that follows seasonal patterns, often impacting mood, energy, sleep, and motivation. As February comes to a close and Daylight Saving Time approaches, longer, brighter days are ahead — something to hold onto and look forward to ☀️

If this season has felt heavy, you don’t have to navigate it alone 💛 If you’d like more information or feel you may be struggling with SAD, we’re here to help.

For the last week of , we honor Inez Beverly Prosser, Ph.D.

"Inez Beverly Prosser is considered to be the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. in psychology. Her dissertation, “The Non-Academic Development of Negro Children in Mixed and Segregated Schools," evaluated the effects of racial inequality and racism on the development of Black children's identity and mental health. Her research and arguments helped lead some of the first discussions about desegregating American schools."
