Pafford EMS Ambulance Transporting Patient on I-55 Hit Head-On

WESSON, MS - [February 6, 2026] – Pafford EMS is heartbroken to confirm that one of our ambulances was involved in a serious crash last night on I-55 near Wesson, MS. The ambulance was traveling northbound and had two crew members on board, both of whom are currently in critical condition. They have both been flown to the nearest trauma center.

Unfortunately, we also received the heartbreaking news that the patient being transported in the ambulance was pronounced deceased at the scene. We are unsure of the condition of the driver who struck us head-on.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is the lead investigative agency for this tragic crash.

As we navigate through this difficult time, we ask for your compassion and to join us in praying for everyone affected. Our top priority remains the safety and full recovery of our crew members, and we are committed to supporting them in every way possible during their recovery journey.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all emergency services that promptly responded to this incident. Their support was invaluable in managing the situation. Thank you for everything you have done for these four patients tonight.

Cold temperatures are expected this weekend, along with potentially hazardous weather conditions. We want to remind everyone to take extra precautions to protect their health and safety

❄️ Cold Weather Health Facts:
• Prolonged exposure to cold can lead to hypothermia, even above freezing temperatures
• Elderly individuals, young children, and those with chronic medical conditions are more vulnerable to cold-related illness
• Cold air can worsen asthma, COPD, and other respiratory conditions

🧤 Safety Tips:
• Dress in warm, layered clothing and cover exposed skin
• Limit time outdoors when temperatures are at their lowest
• Check on elderly neighbors, friends, and family
• Bring pets indoors and ensure livestock have adequate shelter
• Use heaters safely and never use grills or generators indoors

An ambulance backed up to the NEA Humane Society, but this wasn’t an emergency call. Instead, Emerson Ambulance Service was making its third annual delivery of pet supplies collected during the holidays.
