If you've ever been to therapy before, you might imagine a quiet office, a perfectly put together mom, and deep conversations about your childhood.

Postpartum therapy is... not that.

Therapy for newly postpartum moms is a space where:
✨ You can talk about scary intrusive thoughts without fear of judgment.
✨ We sort through baby blues vs. postpartum depression vs. postpartum anxiety.
✨ We process birth stories - especially the ones that didn't go as planned.
✨ We discuss shifts in identity.
✨ We normalize rage, grief, overstimulation, and ambivalence.
✨ We build real support systems - not just "let me know if you need anything".

It's also very practical. We create sleep protection plans. We problem solve division of labor at home and how to manage the invisible load. We also plan for returning to work (or staying at home).

Most importantly, if you're struggling with the shift into motherhood it isn't a personal failure and you aren't alone. Reach out for help.

March is Social Work Month and I want to highlight all the good things this profession does for our clients and our communities.

Social work made sense for me to study in graduate school because of the core values and how the profession helps to strengthen the communities we live in.

You can find social workers in hospitals, schools, community mental health centers, private practices, and politics.

So a big THANK YOU to all of my fellow social workers! You are doing great things and the world is better because you are in it! 🫶🏻

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month.

Endometriosis is more than "bad cramps". It's a chronic condition where issue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it - causing inflammation, pain, fatigue, and sometimes infertility.

An estimated 1 and 10 people with a uterus live with endometriosis. That means many of our friends, sisters, clients, coworkers and yes, even your therapist, are navigating this quietly.

I was diagnosed with endometriosis via surgery when I was in high school. I knew something wasn't right if my pain levels were causing me to regularly miss school and work during my period.

Because our symptoms are normalized or dismissed, it can take years for someone to receive a diagnosis. And if you're supporting someone living with endometriosis, sometimes the most powerful thing you can say is "I believe you".

If you live with endometriosis know this:
💛 Your pain real.
💛 You aren't being dramatic.
💛 You deserve thorough and compassionate care.

Feel free to reach out to me if you live with this and are in need of some extra support.

📣Real talk, you're going to yell at your kid at some point. You're human. Parenting is overstimulating, exhausting, and relentless.

What matters most isn't that you never lose your cool - it's what you do next.

Repair teaches your child:
✨ Conflict doesn't mean disconnection.
✨ Big feelings can be worked through.
✨ Relationships can bend without breaking.

The goal isn't raising kids who never experience rupture. The goal is raising kids who know how to repair.

💚 Repair matters more than perfection.

How am I doing motherhood differently.. not that it’s right or better than your way, it’s just what works for my family and me.

That’s the thing, you’re allowed to do it differently from how you were raised, how your friends are raising their kids, and what society says is the “right way”.

I’m curious to hear how you are parenting differently! Feel free to leave a comment below!

As always, if you’d like to start your therapy journey with me I’d be honored and I do have some openings!

Lastly, if you find yourself in my hometown of Memphis I'd highly recommend taking a stop at a few of these places that celebrate Black history, culture, and excellence.

Who knows, if you're feeling up for it maybe you can end your night dancing on the floors of the famous Paula & Raidford's Disco 🪩💃🕺🏻

Ever wondered what your perinatal therapist has experienced in her own journey to motherhood?

I thought I’d share some of my story with you all and hopefully this will help at least one mom to feel less alone. My office is a judgment free space and l genuinely enjoy discussing the darker side of motherhood with my clients. I am a mom, yes, but I am far from perfect.

During pregnancy I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. The news hit me really hard and I mentally beat myself up about it. It didn’t make sense that I developed this when all I craved was fresh fruit, however, it took learning that the placenta is also making its own insulin which confuses the body on which signals to listen to that eventually helped to give myself some grace.

I had my son via emergency C-section after he didn’t respond well to me getting the epidural. I was scared of what the procedure would feel like and worried others would say I took “the easy way out”.

Being a first time parent is hard, and it’s even harder when you’re doing it 17 hours away from your village and with no help outside of your partner.

I’ve always struggled with anxiety so it should’ve been obvious that I was dealing with postpartum anxiety when I was having scary intrusive thoughts, but I didn’t want to tell anyone about it, not even my husband.

Going back to work after maternity leave was hard. And even harder was the fact that my body knew I was away from my son and therefore my milk supply quickly dwindled and my breastfeeding journey ended after about 5 months.

No one tells you it’s going to be years before you feel like yourself again. My son is almost 7 now and since he was born I’ve gone through phases of loving and hating my body. Strength training has really saved my relationship with my body now.

I know not everyone has a supportive partner to do parenthood with but I truly feel like I won the lottery with Greg. He’s been hands on since day one and is the best dad.

If any of this resonates with you or you want to start your journey with therapy feel free to reach out to me. 🫶🏻
