This is Community Risk Reduction Week, a national effort to eliminate simple risks that lead to fires. Did you know that across the U.S. a home fire is reported every 96 seconds? That a fire death occurs every three hours on average? We want Missourians to eliminate the unforced errors that lead to fires - an unwatched pan on the stove, a worn electrical cord under a rug, a space heater too close to a curtain. Please think about fire safety every week, not just this week!

Continued dry conditions promote the easy spread of a controlled fire, which can become uncontrolled.

Wildland Fire Safety

Our area is currently experiencing very dry weather. That, combined with elevated winds, raises concerns about the rapid spread of natural cover fires. Please take steps to help prevent a serious and irreversible incident.

• Call your area fire department before burning to check current conditions.
• Do not burn near buildings, vehicles, or anything that you don’t intend to burn.
• Never leave a fire unattended.

Stay Safe!
