CO Awareness Month may be coming to a close, but the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning doesn’t stop here, and neither should prevention. Because awareness is only the beginning.

Together, we can make CO safety part of everyday life.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is 100% preventable, and we all have a part to play.

Here’s a quick safety checklist you can use and share during Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month:

● Install working CO alarms on every level of your home
● Test your alarms every month
● Never run a generator or car in an enclosed garage
● Know the signs: headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue
● Schedule regular appliance inspections and vent checks

Myth: Carbon monoxide alarms make noise when CO is present.

Fact: Carbon monoxide alarms save lives.

Carbon monoxide alarms will alert you when there is a deadly amount of CO present and are excellent life safety devices. Portable handheld monitors can alert you at any level of carbon monoxide.

Today, fire departments from across Newton and McDonald counties came together for a collaborative training focused on wildland fire preparedness.
We were honored to have representatives from the Missouri Region D Area Coordination team, Newton County Emergency Management, and the Missouri Department of Conservation join us.
This training highlighted local and statewide resources and provided guidance on how to procure support in the event of a wildland fire outbreak.
A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this session a success!

Imagine this: protection from carbon monoxide, 24 hours a day, without even thinking about it.

With a working CO alarm in the right places and a handheld portable detector handy, you can have peace of mind. It only takes one simple step to protect your family, your home, and your future.

1. Install/test your alarms.
2. Replace them when needed.
3. Sleep safer: every day, all year.

C shift is putting in that work. Testing, training, and implementing new rescue techniques our responders can have in their arsenal if and when an incident requiring high angle rescue might occur. We love to see the guys push the limits of the ordinary scene management to challenge the thoughts and processes to help our community. Keep up the work responders!!

The Redings Mill Fire Protection District extends its condolences to the Norris Family. Marilou Norris recently passed away. Her husband, Bob, was a volunteer firefighter with our organization in the early years. In the 1990s, she, along with other firefighter wives and community members, formed the ladies’ auxiliary. The auxiliary organized annual fundraisers and played a vital role in providing equipment during times of financial strain. She served on the fire district's board of directors from 1996 to 2001. We appreciate the Norris family's involvement with the fire district over the years.
