Supporting a child through a meltdown is not just about what we say or do.
It’s also about what is happening inside us.

Our nervous system responds to their overwhelm.
Their panic can trigger our panic.
Their intensity can activate our urgency.
Their distress can stir our own history of not feeling safe.

So before we can co-regulate a young person, we often need to regulate ourselves.
Not perfectly — just enough to stay steady.

This post shares supportive ways to stay regulated as the adult, so that we can be the grounding presence a child’s nervous system is reaching for in the storm.

Because when we are calm, predictable, and connected — the child feels safe enough to return to calm too.🤎

Self-Care for ADHD Burnout

ADHD burnout is real.
It’s not just being “tired.” It’s mental exhaustion from masking, overthinking, juggling a thousand unfinished tasks, and constantly feeling “behind.”

When your brain runs at 200 mph, burnout hits harder. But self-care isn’t a luxury—it’s survival. Here are gentle reminders:

✨ 1. Rest without guilt.
Burnout recovery isn’t laziness. Your brain needs downtime.

✨ 2. Break tasks smaller.
Don’t aim to finish the whole mountain—just move one small stone.

✨ 3. Dopamine breaks.
Listen to music, stretch, doodle, or switch environments. Small joy = brain fuel.

✨ 4. Say NO.
Protect your energy. Overcommitting = guaranteed crash.

✨ 5. Body care = brain care.
Hydrate, eat real food, move your body. ADHD burnout feels worse when your body is neglected.

✨ 6. Ask for help.
Support isn’t weakness—it’s strategy.

ADHD brains burn out fast because they care, they try, they push beyond limits.
But remember—you are not lazy, you are tired. And tired people need care, not criticism.

💙 Take it slow. Recharge. Heal.
Your spark will come back.
