✨ How to know if your baby has a good latch ✨
One of the most common questions I hear from new moms is: “How do I know if my baby is latching correctly?” The good news—your body and your baby give you clues. 👶🤍
A good latch usually looks like this:
✔️ Feeding feels comfortable — not painful
✔️ No ni**le soreness, pinching, or flattening after feeds
✔️ Swallowing is heard or seen during feeds
✔️ Baby appears relaxed and satisfied after nursing
✔️ Breasts feel softer after feeding
✔️ Wet/dirty diaper counts are on track
✔️ Baby is gaining weight appropriately
Pain, cracked ni**les, or frustration during feeds are not things you need to push through. They’re signs something may need adjusting — and help is available. 💛
📚 Trusted breastfeeding resources:
• La Leche League International – latch help, local support groups, and helplines
• KellyMom – evidence-based breastfeeding & newborn feeding education
• International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) – hands-on latch and feeding support
• Your pediatrician or postpartum nurse – especially for weight checks and feeding concerns
If breastfeeding doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and reach out early. Small latch adjustments can make a huge difference — for both you and your baby.
You’re not doing this wrong. You’re learning. And so is your baby. 🤍
