Dr. Baastrup…. Where do we begin? With 40+ years of experience in service in Juneau we are honored to have him join up with us! Many of you will recognize him because he’s been practicing in the same space as Happy Family Chiropractic since well before we began and now we’re on the same team. He is passionate about what he does and everyone who has been under his care will attest to that. We’re excited to have such a powerful, knowledgeable, and experienced provider working with us. Anyone who chooses him as their chiropractor will not be disappointed. When he’s not in the office he’s usually behind his camera shooting amazing photos of the wild world. In fact he’s currently in Nepal doing just that! Join us in officially welcoming him into the family!

Living in Southeast Alaska and putting down roots in the community means we get to learn all kinds of cool and interesting things from our Native brothers and sisters. Southeast Alaska has taught this whole office all kinds of things we never knew we didn’t know. We count ourselves as members of a lucky and fortunate group to be surrounded by so much community here. Come stop by the office and drop some knowledge on our staff and get adjusted!

Heat or cold which is better post injury? The answer is it depends. For acute injury, (within 3-5 days of the injury) ice it. Chronic injuries (+2 weeks) often do better with heat. This is because cold slows blood flow and heat increases blood flow. In the acute stages sometimes it’s better to slow things down and the numbing effect ice has on the body helps alleviate pain. As healing progresses heat often helps. In this case buckwheat went for a few long runs and decided that a hot spring was the ticket to help him heal.
