Real Support. Real Story.

Behind every doula is a family who felt the difference that continuous support can make.

This week, we’re celebrating the doulas in our community and the people whose birth experiences were shaped by their presence, encouragement, and care.

Because birth is powerful and no one should have to navigate it alone.

Doulas provide emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after childbirth. Research indicates that having a doula can lead to better outcomes for families. Their presence can help reduce anxiety and enhance the overall birthing experience.

Midwives deliver clinical care throughout the prenatal, birth, and postpartum periods. They not only monitor the health of both the pregnant person and the baby, but also support the family by encouraging patient involvement in decision-making and respecting individual preferences. Studies show that midwifery care positively impacts maternal health and birth outcomes.

Together, doulas and midwives make a powerful team. Let’s ensure that every family has access to their support. 💪

Join us in shouting HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMBUR! 🎂✨

She’s already brought so much warmth, skill, and heart to JFBC.

In her own words:
“I’m grateful for a career that brings me purpose, and for coworkers who have made this transition to JFBC, Alaska feel so welcoming and supportive. My birthday wish? More family adventures—road trips, hikes, and exploring hidden corners of Alaska.”

Help us celebrate this incredible midwife today! 💛

Black midwives belong in every birth space.
The profession is better when they are here.

Today is Black Midwives Day.

Black midwives have long been leaders in birth work and have also navigated systemic barriers within a profession that has not always offered equal access or support.

Welcoming Black and BIPOC birth workers into this field isn’t symbolic. It’s necessary.

Representation strengthens care. Equity strengthens outcomes.

We are committed to creating space, advocating for access, and continuing to examine how we show up as colleagues, as employers, and as a birth center rooted in community.

Shirleen was welcomed by her family on January 25th, joining her mother, father, and sister. Her 'little' big sister, Millie, who has affectionately nicknamed Nini "Toy", has already taken charge of caring for baby Nini, true to her firstborn personality.

Congratulations to the beautiful family!
